  1. I live in the US and am confused about the two NTSC frame rates.
    23.976 and 29.97

How do I know which one to select?
Will it be different each time, depending on the movie?
I read somehwere that the typical Hollywood type movies use 23.976, and that is all I want to encode...just "regular" movies.

Also, on the settings in DVDx, how do I know when I should tick the settings below it, "Detect Prog 24hz" and "Force 24Hz"??

I would appreciate any help to get me on the right track.

    Depending on the source ?

  3. We in the United States use NTSC though...not Pal, right?
So which frame setting do I select between the 23.97 or 29.97
Im also making SVCDs, will that make a difference?

Well as I said it will depend on the source, normally they are 29.97fps, but if you had a 23.97 and converted it to 29.97 , you could end up with something jurky... if you did it wrong.

Most people argue the you should convert to match the source, after all most DVD players will play them all.

When people share their home movies as AVI, they usually convert to match the source, so if they had a home movie at 23.976 then it would be converted to AVI at the same frame rate. It can always be converted to some other frame rate later if its not suitable for the purposes.

SVCD, It wont make a difference so far as frame rate is concerned

    Super Video-CD NTSC Film (MPEG-2 480x480 23.976fps CBR 2520kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)

If you have an imported DVD that wont play, then you have no choice but to convert it.

  5. Films made in the U.S. are made at 23.97 FPS. If you choose 29.97 FPS in DVDx you will get an error message that the input and output frame rates are different. So whether you are making a vcd or an svcd choose 23.97 FPS. As far as the detect or force 24hz, Try detect first. If there is a problem you will get an error message telling you to choose Force 24hz. I can't remember exactly how it is worded, but you will know it when you see it. 8)
