Hi,
I am trying to create mpeg2's to go on to dvd from the footage I capture on my DC10+ card (MJPEG) and was wondering if anyone has done this and how successfull they have been??, do you get good results encoding from MJPEG to MPEG2 using tmpgenc or do you have to convert it to another codec first (i.e huffy) as when I look at the video I capture it looks interlaced and on the tests I have done with tmpgenc setting deinterlace to even field it takes ages and still does not look that good ( the source is good). If anyone has done what I am trying to do I would appreciate it if you could let me know the tmpgenc settings you used to get your best results.
many thanks
Zed

zed,
Hi, I use the DC10+, and have ben for the last few months (i guess). I've learned a lot about settings in this card (that is, capturing and encoding, and anytihng in between). I think it's a pretty good card (for now), but I can't PROVE anything without samples - right?
Anyway, I'm still having problems just trying to get a Server up and running! And I don't want to go the peer-to-peer route.
Anyway, yes, the source is good - usually is (to some extent). I cap form directv. FYI: I've noiced that directv has some blocks (they must being using mpeg-2), and with an exerpeinced eye, I can spot many flaws in movies, and shows, and commericals, etc.
Oi, I don't know what your source is because you didn't specify! That would help.
Ok, as far as tmpgenc setitngs (and versions) go, it will depend on each persons machine, chip set, etc., but most settings posted will work (with a little tweak). AAMOF, i just found and even better encode quality process (after months of trial and error, and other apps, etc.). If I should (someday) figure out how to get a Server up and running, I'll copy some clips there for you too see. And, if you think that these clips are better than what you have, via you capture and encodeing process, then I'll share what I have found (learned) out on my own.
Mind you, my update-to-date cap/encode process still needs a bit of tweakng (what may work for me, may not work for you), but it's a slow process, and this Server thing has put a damper on it. Anyways. . . I (we) need some more details from you.
Can you give some detail steps to your process. From caputer settins to encoding settings?
...so we can have a closer look at your process.
Sorry if i'm not much of help at the moment. If I have time, I'll post a short sample clip on my Yahoo Briefcase storage site. Just give me some time. I'll cap something real quck, and I'll post it (above) and post a link here to it - K? Then, you can tell me what you think?
Thank you. -
Thanks vhelp,
I am capturing form footage that I have taken on my camcorder (analogue) and then copied to a normal vhs tape and then played in to the Studio software captured at the screen size of 720x540 and 6mbit (no dropped frames) however when I play I play it back it back in windows media player it appears to be interlaced (i.e streaks in the footage like the lines are spaced too far apart) and I therefore add the deinterlace even field filter when using tmpgenc however the resulting mpeg2 (using the standard dvd template) appears to be grainy and not very sharp. I would be very interested in seeing some of your samples and appreciate the help you have offered.
regards

DONT USE DEINTERLACE !!!! this destroy about 70% of video quality
If you record video on your camcorder, you cannot play it on monitor - only on VIDEO OUTPUT ! etc - ignore small window on monitor and look on connected TV. Without TV it is not called video editing, but "lamers session"
Therefore - capture in FULL RESOLUTION 768x576 (DONT USE TV CROPPING), make INTERLACED MPEG-2 and you will be very happy with results
what make you current video look ugly ?
translation 540 lines back to 576 (tv cropping suxx)
deinterlace (simply make interlaced MPEG) -
zed,
Sorry for the long delay, and not posting any samples. I've had problems with my main pc. It craped out on me after posting my last response to you. I believe I may have a working server about ready, but I am interested in VLK3's response. I have you tried it yet?
I am interested in your answer. Get back to me and let me know if it worked for you - K?
Thanks!
