I have an avi i want to convert to mpeg. When i load the avi in to tmpe it has no sound and gives me an error 40% thorugh the conversion. I Load the moive in to Virtual Dub

virtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during this process for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 9521ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to and uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder.(bitrate: 129.4 + 14.2 kbps)

What sould i do. Can any one out there help me

Go to the audio Toolbar in VirtualDub, click on Full Processing Mode, then click on compression and select "No compression" . Click on the audio Toolbar again and select conversion. Then check 44100Hz , 16 bit, High Quality, Stereo. Then click on Direct Stream Copy for both the audio and video Toolbars, then go to file and click on "Save as Avi". The new AVI will be corrected, asuuming you have all the codecs for VirtualDub

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

You cannot use Vdub normal to work with files that have VBR and Bad frames. Also did you find out why you had no sound ?, no point in doing anything untill that is sorted...

    See Vdub MP3

    Sound, Check your priorities

    TMPGEnc
Option environmental settings > VFAPI plug-ins > DirectShow Multimedia File reader
Right click on it and select higher priority, do that several times until its at the top with a value of 4, or just below any Mpeg 2 filter.

Make sure you have the audio codec, might be AC3 missing

Would I then have to convert the new AVI to WAV for use in tmpgenc or can the new AVI (no compression) be used?

If you use Direct stream copy, you cannot convert anything to anything, you need to use full processing mode for audio, and if you used it for video it would be huge

So, would I have to convert the new (non-VBR) AVI to WAV using full processing mode and then use it in TMPGenc, or can I use the new
(non-VBR) AVI as the audio source in TMPGenc?

If I click "full processing mode" in the first step, then make my changes in compression and conversion, Well when I go back to the audio and select "direct stream copy" it cancels out "full processing mode". Is it suppose to do that?

Yes, as "Direct Stream Copy" saves out another copy without any editing. Make sure when you go back to audio after performing the steps that it's on "Full Processing Mode" instead of "Direct Stream Copy".

  9. Another pretty good program IF you plan to convert you AVI to Mpeg/VCD, is Decompressor, it's very easy to use, it comes with AVI2VCD. I use it all the time because TMPGEnc cannot process compressed Audio very well, problems, Jerkiness, syncing..etc.

Now I'm supremely confused! If selecting "direct stream copy" cancels out "full processing mode" then why do I select it in the first place?
