  1. I am having a problem trying to convert mpg. files on my computer to vcd format to play on my stand alone dvd player.I have a sony digital camcorder dcr-trv140 ntsc.I have used the software included with it(PIXELA) to capture the film.It captures it as an mpg. file.I've tried to use TMPGE to convert the format to vcd or svcd so it can be burned on to a cd-r and be played on my stand alone dvd player.Everytime that I convert it and burn it to cd-r it still gives me a disc error when i try to play it.I own many vcds most of them from Asia and they work fine on my player.I have found that the cheaper dvd players will play about anything even copies of vcds.So I don't think that it is my dvd player as I own 3 of them and none of them will play the files that I have converted.Am I missing something? What is the best program to use for this?
    Thanx in advance,

Just a few things, VCD's can be commercial "pressed" disks and DVD players may play those, but the disks you are making are not pressed they are burned on CDR so the DVD play must be able to play CDR-VCD normally its listed as CDR/CDR-W/VCD/MP3 etc.

Second point, if you have not made any that works yet, you need to find out what your DVD player needs, there is a compatibility guide here, see if your player is listed.

Third point, when you use TMPGEnc you should load a VCD template, this sets the output to be compliant, if you are not using a template you could be making XVCD or non standard disks. There are PAL/NTSC templates, looks like you should be loading a NTSC VCD template.
