  1. ive got 2 mpeg files of a film and i want to later put them on vcd/dvd, but it won't let me encode them in any program. Must be a dodgy mpeg you must be thinking , but it plays all the way through fine on my computer. Why won't it let me encode them. any help would be great.

  2. why would you want to encode mpg files? All you need to do is burn them. you dont need to do any further encoding.

TMPGEnc + supports only 3 types. Sony,Cyberlink and Ligos

Install a Mpeg 2 codec (filter)
Best, Ligos LSX MPEG Encoder Suite 2.0

  4. Sorry chaps i wasn't too clear about what i wanted to do. ideally i want to put the mpegs on to dvd and as you know it has to be in a certain format to do this. so i thought i'd re-encode it to dvd specification which is why i had my original problem. but cheers anyway.

You can do what ever you want with them, once you have an Mpeg 2 filter like ligos

They might need to reencode it because the clip is the wrong size, frame rate, data rate, MPG type, etc...... i've had a number of downloads (eg music videos) that have been MPG1 but not suitable for VCD because of kooky settings, eg 360x280 and other odd resolutions, 30.000fps (or 20.000 for one!), 3Mbit/s, VBR or mp3 sound...
-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!

  7. VCD/DVDs are very fussy about their mpegs; they'll only accept 'certain' mpegs encoded with 'certain' settings. Put your mpegs through Tmpeg, but use one of their templates (ie/VCD or DVD) to auto-setup the program with the correct settings.
