  1. All I want is a basic capture card without all the fancy trimmings like 3d glasses etc. That will capture video input in one continuous avi file.

I'm currently using an ASUS v7700 deluxe and I have the following problems.
It won't work on XP. No surprise there.
It splits the captured avi video into 2gb files causing a drop of frames and sound between the end of one file and start of the next.
Captured MPEG is a nightmare to edit.
    It won't capture in 720X576. Only 704X576.

The compression ratio of the ASUS codec is excellent but is locked exclusively to the capture card. After I edit the video using Ulead software, it won't let me use the ASUS codec which means I have to use other encoders which inflates the file enormously.
(Anyone know any cracks or software to unlock the ASUS codec)

I'm open to suggestions on other capture cards which are reasonably priced that will give me a continuous stream of video without having to stop/start to avoid losing frames.
Nice try ASUS. Close but no cigar!!

  2. Hi imbatman,
I'll try to help. First please post more info about your system,(ex. motherboard make and model, cpu speed,ect...). Second how much will you pay for a card?

I went thru different motherboards (2), and capturecards (2). After that LOSS OF TIME AND MONEY , I would suggest to go with a card from Canopus ADVC-100 or for realtime MPEG compressed videos MVR1000. The MVR1000 is big bucks, but performs realtime MPEG compression. If thats too much money then go for the ADVC-100. With that card at least you won't drop frames, and alot less problems.

I used to capture with the v7700 using avi_io, which allows you to use the asus codec (quality 9). Avi_io allows you to capture 3 x 4Gb avi files, which equated to 90mins of avi, which I then used tmpgenc to encode to vcd & dvd compliant mpegs

Ive been using the v7700 up until recently myself, the limitations you mention are the very reason I bought a winfast 2000 xp tuner/capture card. This new card & I are having our teething problems so I can't recommend it to you at this stage. The canopus ADVC 100 would be my pick judging by the good mentions it gets on this site.
