I'm extremely new to the VHS-> DVD conversion process and while I've been quite busily reading the forums I've created an OK job stream to get from point A) Betamax tapes to point B) DVD-R
But, the question I pose is what do newbies use for their editing? I've done no prior editing of video and followed the job stream of Capture (Scenelyzer)->Encode (TMPGEnc) ->Author (IfoEdit) -> Burn (Nero).
I like having control over the Video_TS (VOB files) and have attempted to use both DVDMaestro and SpruceUp! but the files I'm using created in TMPGEnc do not want to import. They do however import into the MainConcept EVE Demo I am currently messing with, but I am unable to add the m2v file into the demo of ULead I am trying out.
Any suggestions would be appreciated since I am wanting to chapter some of the tapes I have.
Thank you!

I'm new to this as well, and having major problems of my own!!! but from what I can see you've not tried VirtualDub for your editing. It seems to be the most recommended here. I've tried it for editing a copied avi file and it has done what it's supposed to for me.
You might want to give it a try, maybe it can help solve your problems. You'll find the link for it under the tools section of this website.
Hope this is of help.
Good Luck

Thanks!! I never thought of using VDub for actual editing purposes but did manage to utilize it to "rip" the wav file out of the avi (DV-Type 2) I had recorded from a Beta tape. After that I encoded it with BeSweet and was able to open both the audio and the video with SpruceUp! and DVDMaestro...
I'll have to check into using Virtual Dub for actual editing prior to encoding...thanks again
