  1. Can someone freaking tell me why I can't get my Cybermail card to work?

I'm trying to cap 352X480 using AVI_IO with this card. After about 10 mins. it freezes. I've tried a variety of formats, codecs (huffy, PicVideo Mpeg) and resolutions (including the rated 352X240), all with the same result.

I have a 1.2 ghz. Thunderbird and Abit KT7A with the Via chipset. I'm running Win 98 (not SE) and I loaded the latest bios and drivers available with no help. I have two HDD's, one a 5400 rpm Maxtor and the other a WD 7200 rpm, and it didn't make any diff.

    Any suggestions? ....... Please.

  2. I have the same card except I use Virtual Dub to capture. Try Virtual Dub.

  3. I have a Tbird 1.2Ghz and a VIA KT133A chipset, with the Cybermail card. I can use AVI_IO or VDub without problem. Have you:

    1) Tried moving the card to a different PCI slot
    2) Check for configs or other hardware using the same IRQs, and/or changed the IRQs.

  4. Hi Gang,

    Thanks for your attention.

I have not tried VDub, that's a great suggestion. I have checked for conflicts and there are none. I have not tried another PCI slot, will give that a try too. Thanks for the ideas guys. I'll let you know.

Anyone think it could be the operating system (original win9?

  5. HELP!

I tried VDub, same result. I switched slots and got the same result. I removed my SoundBlaster PCI card, and now I get an error message saying that "your hardware/software doesn't support the framerate you specified" (which is 29.97). Now it won't even capture at all. I've loaded, unloaded, reloaded......zippo. So far, the cybermail isn't working for shit for me.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  6. Welp, put the sound card back and we're back to square one (captures and freezes). Funny thing is, the freeze happens at different times.....sometimes within just a minute, sometimes after 20 mins.

    Help.

  7. Just out of curiosity...did you load their software? Or did you just load the drivers for their card? Have you tried capturing the same file or did you try different files to capture?
If you haven't already, try using the capture guide here for Virtual Dub and see what happens.

    Hi,
    You could try 2 things.
    1) Switch from using AGP x4 in your bios to AGP x2.
    2) Check there no over heating problems.

Also what graphics card are you using as some don't like Brooktree Chip overlaying information into them. Or report they can do his but can not.

  9. Thanks for your responses.

Gambit, I tried several different captures, sources, resolutions, frame rates, codecs, codec settings, file sizes, cache sizes, virtually everything I could think of. I've done a forum search on such issues to not luck. I've tried following the capture guide. I've been using a PCTV capture card on another computer for months with really no unresolvable problems. I'm trying to use this card on this computer to do some VCD TV shows I have archived. Also, I did not use their software, but rather used the drivers windows provided. The card loads easily and displays zero conflicts with anything else no matter what slot I put it in.

Ironwood, I will try the AGP Bios setting. I did recently load the 4 in 1 drivers for VIA chipsets as well as the most recent drivers for my motherboard. But I don't know if this is an issue as I had never tried any captures previous to doing this. I doubt there's an overheating problem. It IS HOT here. But I have the computer case open on the side with a dedicated fan blowing into the case 24/7, as well as a dedicated case fan, cpu fan, and VIA chipset fan (I've had heating probs. at other times). The graphics card I'm using is a 3DFX Voodoo 3 with the latest driver set installed about a month ago. I don't know about any conflict here, could that be it? I have some other video cards, maybe I'll try that too.

I'll get back to you on the AGP thing.....

    Thanks again

  10. Ironwood,

I didn't have the option of AGPx2. It was AGPX4 enabled/disabled and it was already disabled. For fun, I enabled it and got the same result. Haven't tried the video card yet.

  11. Have you gone into your device manager to see if it was your default capture device and not the one windows usually has set? I think windows automatically sets it to something else, but the name escapes me right now. Also when I first got this card I was having problems too. Here's the thread for that..it might have something in it that may help:

  12. Hi gambit,

    Thanks again for your help.

I read that thread checked it out. I have one capture device listed and it's the cybermail device. I have also checked all the IRQ's, no conflict. I tried to change the IRQ for the card, but win-blows won't let me.

Could it be my cheesy win98? Gawd, I've been putting off tearing my computer down to put a new os on, but I think that's where I'm heading unless someone else has an idea? Verjita, what OS are you using?

  13. Hi Gang,

Problem solved (I think). I just did a 30 min capture that went smoothly, no problems. Here's what I did.

I dug out the original CD that came with the card and updated the drivers using the packaged disk. Win blows didn't like it and suggested their's was better.....but WRONG. With the new drivers, the thing seems to run like a charm despite that driver version number being EXACTLY the same.

One more for our favorite person to hate......the Gates!

    Thanks for your suggestions gang.
