  1. Sorry if this is obvious, but I'm a newbie to VCDs and my searches both here and on the KVCD web site have not turned up an answer. I wanted to check out some of the KVCD templates, but I noticed that they do not include the audio portion. In short, how do I add the audio after encoding? Do I just extract it from the avi to a wav with virtualdub and re-encode with tmpgenc? I'm just not clear about this.

no. don't use tmpgenc to encode the audio, it sucks. use Headac3he. then just mux the two files.

  3. Sorry, but I'm still confused. So I extract the wav from the avi with virtualdub, then use Headac3he to convert the wav to ???, then multiplex the mpeg and ??? with tmpgenc? If somebody could clearly spell it out for me, it would be appreciated.

    magwell,

by any chance, are these divX clips you are encoding from ??
in any case, at the top of the main page of vcdhelp, you'll see a bunch
of KingJohn guides and see if there's one for Audio. It may help
    you out some.

What is your source, ie DVD rip (*.d2v) or captured AVI or divX ??

I loaded the wav into headac3e and set the destination to MP2. I pressed start and an error message popped up telling me that I had to download MP2enc.dll from their site. Oookay. So I go back and d/l it, as well as winrar because the author apparently doesn't believe in zip files!

Anyhow, I extracted the dll to the headac3e dir and tried again. Same error message. Tried moving the dll to the windows/system directory, restarted headac3e and it still gives me the same error message. Checked the readme file and there is no mention whatsover as to where this dll should be placed. Needless to say, I gave up.

Yes, divX clips d/l from Kazaa. I did check the KJ guides but could find no answers to my very basic questions. Very frustrating. Guess I'll do without KVCD templates.

  8. The KVCD templates are just the same as any other TMPGenc template. If you are able to get the standard VCD template to work, then the KVCD version operates in exactly the same way. If you have a .wav file and the DivX .avi file, just load the two into TMPGenc and encode away with any template of your choosing.

    Hi kwag,
Yes I did, and I got stalled right here:

    Use Headac3he:

When I click start, headac3he tells me that I need to get mp2enc.dll. I did. It's in the Headac3e dir. I also copied it to the windows/system dir. headac3he says it can't find it. Now I need 2 aspirins.

    magwell,

    Try this..

Fine the site where you got the PII version setup.
Then, uninstall the old setup you have of Headace
THen, re-install again fresh, the PII version.

Make sure you have ALL the PII version *.DLLs required, and don't
installed each indiviually unless otherwise asked to (by software)

    Oh, and one other thing..

Since I recall you stateing.. that you had gone and copied those *.DLL
    files into the \system\ directly.

If you have done this with those *.DLL's, please remember to REMOVE
those OLD'er one you forgot about. Headacke may be deafulting to
your windows PATH first (pending on your load up order in your PATH)

Good luck with your templates, and have fun !!

  15. After much trial and error, I found the solution. I removed the old installation of headac3he plus all applicable dll files and reinstalled from scratch. I d/l the version of mp2enc.dll for my CPU (PII) and put it in the headac3he dir.

I ran headac3he and got the following: Loading MP2enc.dll...failed

I moved the dll to my windows dir. I ran headac3he and got the following:
    Loading MP2enc.dll...failed

I moved the dll to my windows/system dir. I ran headac3he and got the following: Loading MP2enc.dll...failed

I moved the dll to my root dir (c:\). I ran headac3he and got the following: Loading MP2enc.dll...failed

Then I found the solution: I deleted headac3he from my hard drive. Problem solved! Thanks to those who tried to help, but headac3he is a joke, imo.
