  1. Hi there guy's and girls ! I'm in need of a bit of help, Ive had a good look through this forum and have not found my answer,

Im using Studio 8 to capture my holiday footage from a DV source, and the final project is a two hour DVD, the only thing is that I want to increase the data rate on the captureto boost my final output quality, It seems to be fixed at 3745 kbps, if this is not possible with Studio 8, is there a rally good progam that will let me alter the date rate on the capture or even the codec that is used to capture ?

any help would be very greatful

DV video is fixed in size and bitrate

however there is a lot of tweaking room in the encoding part

  3. Hi thanks for your reply,

I know there is lots that can be done with the encoding, I have spent a fortune on a mpeg2 encoder and have spent the las 9 months on and off working on this, but I have read that some poeple have changed the bitrate of there capture.

I have created many great dvds from my dv camera, But I want to increase the video quality even more as when you pause the dvds, the picture is very grainy.

    any suggestions would be greatful.

    Thank in advance

you can increase quality from what it originally was
    However

    You can try-
changing your DV codec - the Microsoft default codec is not very good there are a couple of options - they are listed in the tools section
I don't use DV very often -mainly because I don't own a DV camera - but a friend does so I play rarely
I use the Mainconcept DV codec for capture and playback and found it much improved on the MS one

you mentioned you spent a fortune on a MPeg2 encoder but you never mentioned WHAT it was - I'm guessing it wasn't TMPEGEnc for $49
try this - there's a 30day trial and see the differences
there are stacks of guides on this site for using TMPEGenc to it's optimum performance and quality
    Hope this helps
