write .mpg to dvd+r (verbatim) using hpdvd200e and nero

have tried this numerous times, they play in most dvd players, but with no audio, only video. using nerovision 5.5 express, verbatim dvd+r's and a hp dvd 200e burner. my other problem is burning vcd's using nero again and cd-r's. how do i convert avi to mpg, or is there a way to watch and burn it in avi format. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I am not familiar with NeroVision, but some programs are touchy with converting to another format. Maybe try another program, Ulead.com has free trials on their programs. Try Movie Factory 2, trial, or Workshop.
I may be wrong, but I believe dvd uses mpeg2 format, not avi. So it needs converted and a good program will do that for you. Video Wave 4 does I know and most Ulead products. Correct me if I am wrong someone...
