The logic behind 'what to do' is relatively straightforward as follows -
1. Can the DVD fit onto a DVD-R with no changes (< 4.3 Gbyte) ?
Yes - Simply, rip the WHOLE DVD, burn.
2. Can the Movie fit onto a DVD-R if you strip the menu's and extras ?
Yes - Rip just the movie, recreate the ifo's with ifoedit and burn.
3. Can the movie fit onto a DVD-R with the extra's stripped completely AND the extra audio streams/subs etc stripped from the main movie ?
Yes - Rip the movie, delete the extras, strip the unwanted streams, recreate the ifo and burn.
If still NO, then there is only one option left (to fit onto one DVD-R that is) and that is re-encode to get the bitrate down.
So finally, rip the movie, delete the extra's,strip the unwanted streams, re-encode the Vob's (<4.3 Gbyte), recreate the IFO's and burn.
There you go - a very simple way of looking at things !!

You can also determine size and rip just the parts you need to begin with. Another option is to CUT the credits at the end of the movie if you are cutting it close.

when you say Yes - Rip just the movie, recreate the ifo's with ifoedit and burn.
do you delete the original ifo files and copy the new ones ifoedit creates into the VIDEO_TS folder?MAC -
Create a VIDEO_TS folder and direct IfoEdit to put all of it's output into this foder. You will get new Ifos and Vobs and 2 Bup files. This is so you don't get the old and new confused when you burn.

JasonK, I would really appreciate your help in learning how to delete the credits at the end of a movie. It seems like they are always embedded as part of the final VOB,... there is no separate VOB for them.
Also, teach me how to cut out the Warner Bros. logo that is embedded in the first VOB of the main movie. I have a movie that is down to 4.7 GB after everything is stripped out except the logo and the credits and I don't want to re-encode. I've tried that and takes much to long. I'm trying to learn how to do things like this so I can use it over and over again,... it's not just for one movie.
Thanks in advance."Technology",...It's what keeps us all moving forward.
