  1. In my circle of friends and family I am considered the computer literate or guru when it comes to fixing a problem or helping out with anything relating to computers. Normally I dont charge anything for doing this seeing as most of the time they are small problems that are easily fixed like installing a scanner.

Recently though, my mother's friend asked me to help him with some computer programs he wanted to learn. Basically I would learn them first (Adobe Paintshop, CAD Landscaping program) then teach him in more simple terms. He also wanted me to show him how to set up an email account in outlook, teach him how to downlod files and some basic skills in Microsoft Word/Excel. Also he wants me to help him shop around for a laptop to suit his needs.

My problem is how much should I charge him for this? I estimate that to learn the programs (already have basic knowledge in both) it would take about a week of on and off using of the program and then say another 10 hours to teach it to him. The other stuff I already know how to do and can teach it to him in say another 7 hours or so.

All up I think about 30 hours will go into it.

Charge as much as he's willing to pay !

If he's not willing to pay, tell him to buy a book from Angus & Robertson !
