Please help! I am a newbie (sorry). I recently purchased the Sony DRU-500A drive (replaced a cr-writer). Installed no problem. I did not know to uninstall the Nero that I was using for my cr-writer before installing the bundled software. Now I cannot uninstall Nero. I get a fatal error during installation message while uninstalling. I tried deleting all ahead files from regedit, but Nero is still listed in my programs. Subsequently, now I get error messages when trying to use the MyDVD software. RecordnowMx will burn a dvd, but my DVIX player won't play the videos. They play while on the hard drive, but not from the DVD. Also, the MyDVD software will not recognize my media (camcorder and mem stick) Please help. Do I need to Fdisk and start all over? If I do, which software is better to use? I am most interested in doing two things. 1. putting avi file on disc for veiwing, (don't have enough room on my hard drive to keep them all in there) 2. capturing video from my camcorder and saving to dvd. (for same reason)

  2. Here is the page on uninstalling Nero manually from the Nero website:

I don't recommend MyDVD unless your movies are very small as it encodes uncompressed PCM audio which is big leaving little room for video.

After cleaning nero maybe a fresh install would be good.

I also recommend Ulead software which works well for movies.

I have also used the latest version of Roxio EZCD to burn data CDs (not DVDs) on the 500A. Nero 5.5.10.0 gave errors writing to CD-R.

  3. Selina -

Did your drive come with Recordnow or Recordnow Max? Be careful, as the DRU500a doesn't list as supported with Recordnow (mine came with Recordnow 4.5)

For burning, you might want to use NERO, IMO it's much more stable.

It came with recordnow, but I upgraded to Recordnow Max online. The Bundle disc directed me to on installation along with DLA or something like that.

I really don't know enough about the different softwares to make an educated decision. I just want to be able to save my home movies to CD or DVD as well as view the movies that I have downloaded in .avi format.

Also, when I burn photos as data, and then try to view them from the disc, they appear distorted, but if I put the same disc into my sons machine the pictures are as they are in my computer. The recordnow software completes the burning process with no errors in both cases. (The movies and the photos.)

  5. Selina,

You mentioned distortion - were you trying to "watch" the images on another computer or on a television?

Also - when you installed NERO, did you install the INCD plug-in as well? It's possible that Recordnow Max DLA might have complications with that installed.

No, the pictures look fine in another computer. Just don't look fine when viewing from the dvd drive that burned them.

I do not think that I installed any plugin. If it did not do it automatically, then no I did not.

I would just like to be able to delete all the programs and start clean without having to reformat my hard drive.

I went into regedit and deleted everything associated with Nero but it still appears in my add/remove programs screen. So I have to believe that there is still some trash in my computer.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,
for me it all looks as if it comes down to the fact, that you installed DLA. I have read posts in more than one forum, that warn of installing it. Not only, that DLA is incompatible with NERO, even if you install it on a "burning-software-clean" system it is said to cause major problems.
DLA enables windows to access your sony like any other harddrive and copy/move/write files to a DVD/CD-R as you would in Windows Explorer.
That is an option, that I actually never used in all the years!
So it is a good idea to only install RecordNow Max and skip the second step in the installation progress - DLA.
I just hope, that you can revert your system back to a state "before" DLA, that would be the best option. I am not sure, how much will be still left on your system, if you de-install DLA using the windows deinstallation routines.

  9. I am also having problems with Nero now after installing the bundled Sony DRU-500A. I do not have the same problem though. The problem with my Nero CD vers 5.5 is that when i installed again, it chose for cd burning, that its going to permanently burn multisession disc. This part is blocked off from me changing that setting, and i dont know what to do.I do not want to make multisession disc.I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it again, but still the same way. Does anyone know what i can do to change this? All i want to do is throw data, or music onto the cd's.

It is RecordNow DX .... not Max. Just to clarify.

What do you have selected in "Recorder" / "Choose Recorder" ?

What type of disk did you select ?

  12. I still have my Acer 12X8X32 selected in the recorder info, that i want to use for just burning cd's, while using my Sony DRU-500A for Burning Dvds. I was just trying to place a Divx File onto a CDR for more space. I have lots of blank cds thats why i dont put them on dvd's and also do to price differences. But everytime i try to burn another file, it ask me to "please insert disc for continuing multisession" something along those lines.Well i just opened Nero and tried to just get the message again and when i went to new disc, it looks like it's now letting me choose the option of multisession disc or not. Hopefully I wont have any more problems. Thanks though Don, seems to be back to normal.

I think in my case "Grandma" might know best. I think I am spending more time trying to fix it than I would if I just reformat and start anew. I will try that this week and get back to you if I still have the problems.

So what should I install, the Nero or the Sony bundled software??

I am really just interested in making longer playing music discs and saving all my home videos from the camcorder and memory stick to disc.

I will get into all the other fun and creative stuff when I have at least got that figured out.

Thank you ALL for your suggestions and help.
