Windows Media Player also can. Just make sure hardware acceleration is turned off, otherwise the screen will be black.

  5. tanks for answering but, as far as i can see with windvd and powerdvd you can only take stills from cd's, cant see any option where to load an avi/mpg file in those 2 progs... also dont know where in tmpgenc there is an option for doing that too

you can load mpegs and avi into windvd .. just drop them onto the window .. if sometimes a file named .m2v doesnt play , rename it to .mpg (this started happening to me) ... with tmpgenc .. select start and end point (even 1 frame apart) and export to frame(s) ..

  7. BJ_M, maybe you can help me! I don't have any of those capture-capable programs in my main computer, but found WinDVD in my husband's laptop and immediately tried to capture, but nothing happened (using "P"). The acceleration was already off (and in fact, grayed out as if it was never an option). Any other ideas? I'd love to be able to screen capture from the DVD-ROM. The was no "Captures" folder as the help/readme said, so I made one, but that didn't help either.

Also, I DO have WMP on my desktop computer, but see no place for doing screen captures. Am I missing something?

My only method for screencaptures at the moment is my Vaio Gigapocket, which is unacceptable unless capturing from a VCR as it is being played by the Gigapocket (so can actually control frames thru the VCR instead of Gigapocket). I'd rather not have to "double capture" everything just for screencaps!

Thanks if you can help (or not )

you can see it in this picture, look to the right of the right arrow and below the speaker

there are diffferent skins for windvd but to expand the menu look arounf doe a arrow or something like it like in this pic (far right)

  9. Thanks for the attempt. Unfortunately, hubby has his computer with him. The other 2 laptops sitting around here, one of which I THOUGHT was identical, don't seem to have the same WinDVD version. These specifically say that capture is disabled and the camera icon is not there. I KNOW his didn't ... and had a "notepad" type readme file that talked about using the "p" for capturing and turning off the hardware accelerator if there's a problem. I wanted to at least see if the camera is there or not. Maybe I'll remember by tomorrow when he's back

So - to legionpc ... WHERE is it on Windows Media player??
