  1. READ THIS PLEASE !!!....
This is important!!!.. I've burned more than 40 discs and label them all and could not understand why the movies failed in same point... this hapends with ALL media discs with several autoring programs; I really tested EVERYTHING diferent movies, diferent players, diferent editing programs and discovered that the ONLY real problem is the labels !!

... I'm talking about paper labels (like stickers) that we can print just like the original !!

    DON'T LABEL YOUR MOVIES !!!!

  2. What are you suggesting we don't label them with?

I found that out the hard way as well. Up to a point, anyway. I found that using cd hubs, which label only the core of the disk seems to work for me.

Please do not use the felt tip pen. If its ink seeps through your disks (as it did on my Princos, a few weeks ago). Your disks will not work any more.
    Hello.

I've been labeling all my DVD's for a long time now.. I write on the inner ring (the white hard surface just around the center hole). with a felt tip pen. I didn't write directly on the DVD-R itself because well that would just be dumb. Dvd's work by passing light through the media. Unless you pay extra money for the more expensive DVD-R's they will probably degrade with user made labeling.

  8. If the manufacturers of the discs did not expect you to write on them, why would they leave a space on the disc for this exact purpose ?

  9. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. I have made many many backups on dvd-r and I generally use the cheapest media I can find and have had little to no problems. Certainly I have never had a problem I could track back to labels.

You may not have had any problems with labels, but that does not mean the problem does not exist. I myself have found that labelling my DVD's causes irratic playcack.

  12. I've heard of people using cheap (donut shaped)lables that cover the majority of the disc. The disc heats up inside the player and softens or liquifies the stickum on the label. if the label is not PERFECTLY centered which they usually are not it will litterally fly to the edge of the disc with the centre spindle of the DVD player being the only thing keeping it from flying right off the edge of the disc. the lable then flips up catches on the guts of the DVD player and maggles. thus you get either a stuck disc (if you have a slot-load DVD player) or a messed up tray...sometimes even a shattered disc. This is funny to witness...just not on your own hardware/media.

If you are lucky enough to use good lables then you must make sure to centre the lable perfectly (with a stamper or hub) or else sentrefugal force will cause the disc to "wobble" cause of the accentric centre of gravity and the laser on the DVD may not be able to stay "on track".

And of caurse NEVER use lables that are rectangular or not round...at least not unless they are perfectly centered on the disc with a hole in the middle. Never put a lable on only one side of the disc. By "side" I mean only between the hole and the edge of the disc. this will cause the disc to be unbalanced.

Oh Yeah. I've been using a Sharpie felt tipped marker on my CDR's for 3 years now. never had a problem EVER. Can't say the same for DVDR media.

  13. The labels I have used are propper press-it labels applied with an applicator, they are perfectly centred. The problems start as soon as the label is applied, as soon as you put the disc in there is playback problems before it has had time to get hot.
