Hello, I have a problem when encoding MPEG-2 (for SVCD burning) using TMPEnc. The pichture quality is good but I get a slight sound distortion when playing the disc in my DVD player (standalone Philips DVD 634). You can easily hear what is said in the movie but for example the voice of the person filming, i.e. being closest to the camcorder mike, is slightly distorted. I am using Ulead Video Studio 5.0 for editing to .avi and the running the TMPEnc as per the instruction by Sochan (sorry for spelling ). The .avi file does not have the distortion when transfered to DV tape again for info. Thanks in advance. Lars S

Try using TooLame to encode your audio as TMPGEnc doesn't really do that great of a job.

Make sure that you have the "High Quality (low speed)" option set under Environmental/Audio engine.

You can also do the conversion the Vdub and frameserve to TMPGEnc. But then also make sure that you use Vdub's high quality setting.

Watch out for samplerate conversion. If the source is 48Khz you should use a good samplerate converter, because (S)VCD use 44.1KHz. TMPGEnc doesn't have a good samplerate converter.
DV=48KHz or 32KHz, so I am pretty sure you have samplerate conversion distortion.

A good sample rate converter plug-in for TMPGEnc that solved the same problem for me is SSRC. Download and extract it to the TMPGEenc folder and choose the ssrc.exe as external program.

    Hope this helps you, too.

Dear All that replied to my question, first off Thanks alot! I installed Toolame incl. the sscr (ssrc?) sample rate qonverter and now the sound is great, I can even hear my camcorder make noice when I zoom in and out The quality of both sound and sight is now very close to DV tape so I am happy. Thanks again for all your help. Lars

I didn't really get, what do you mean with this: where are these options exist, in which of the tools? Could you please be more specific?
I bumped into the same problem and would appreciate for detailing.

OK. Never mind. I've found this option. Will try it.
