  1. hey,

Someone, please, i beg of you, explain to me how the heck do you use Phillips Toolkit? The instructions they give you are sooo confusing. All i want are some easy, 1-2-3 like steps. Please help me!! I need it, desperately! Thanks in advance.

    Thanks a million

  2. Why do you want to use that out-dated, confusing piece of software...... Use VCDImager or Nero to create your VCD - there are a couple of fairly easy GUIs with VCDImager (VCDImagerEasy and TSCV, both have links in the Tools section).

  3. You need to use the right tool for the job.

If all you want is to create a simple VCD movie, you are better off using Nero.

If you are looking to create a complex, professional quality multimedia presentations on a VCD, then nothing compares to Toolkit's capabilities and ease of use. However, like any complex tool, it takes some time and effort on your part to use it.

VCDImager can do a lot, but the current GUI frontends for it are nowhere near as sophisticated as the Toolkit's GUI. However, they may be all you need for what you want to do.

Choose the right tool for the job, and you'll be much happier.

  4. Thank you, both of you. I want to know though, if there is a program where all i want is the movie on the vcd, nothing else. I don't want any menus, assests, or anything like that. All i want is the movie tomplay on my standalone vcd player. What program and how do i do that? Please help me again.

  5. Just use Nero if all you want is a simple vcd. First, make sure you have and compliant mpg of the video you want. If it is and avi or something, then encode it in TMPGEnc. Next, open Nero, scroll down, and select the Video CD option in the wizard. Locate the folder of the mpg in the file browser window, and drag and drop it. Let it load up, and click burn.

Hope that helps. Since I probably gave crappy instructions, then check the AUTHOR option under HOW TO in the sidemenu of this site.

  7. With Nero, if you are making a VCD, it's not necessary for the video to be totally compliant. Nero can encode/reencode AVI and MPEG-1 videos on the fly.

SVCD uses MPEG-2 though. For on the fly MPEG-2 encoding, you'll need to purchase the add-on MPEG-2 encoder, when it's available.
