    Hi,

I need to convert a PAL VCD to NTSC, without changing the audio: it means that I should choose either 25->24fps or 25->30fps. The amount of motion isn't too high, but isn't too low either: it's just "moderate".

Obviously I get jerky motion in both cases, but I remarked that the conversion 25->30 (the duplication of a frame for 5 times during a sec.) seems smoother than the conversion 25->24 (one removal of a frame during a sec.) Is it just me, or my observation is the same as everyone else's?

If this is the case, then I would expect that the reverse NTSC->PAL conversion it is preferable to be done from a 30fps source, rather than 24fps source, even if my intuition tells me otherwise. What is your experience?

As a general conclusion, what is less objectionable: (1) frame rate modification done more often (either up or down), or (2) frame rate upconversion via duplications (rather than downconversion via removals)

I heard there are Adobe Premiere plugins that do a smart and good job, but I am bound to using free software, which means I am limited to choosing between frame duplications and frame removals. I use TMPGEnc with the maximum quality settings.

    Best regards,
    Cosmin

I know all this, thanks. My problem is that I must keep the audio, so I must do real frame rate conversion. It introduces jerky motion no matter how I do it, and my question was how do I get a minimal damage.
