  1. I have some Xvid fles, they are very high quality, but there is no sound when playing them on media player, and when using Tmpgenc. I do have a CODEC for Xvid, and do have some working Xvid files.

Can someone advise me, as I have tried everything.

I think your movie have AC3 sound so you must have the codec for it.

Try first uninstall all your codecs then install this it and see if it works:
    http://www.quellicheilpc.it/quelli02/download.php?op=viewdownload&cid=77
It´s a italian site but you will find it.

And if that don´t work then try this:
Uninstalled all DivX codecs and xvid codecs,(Nimo Pack etc.)
You can then install xvid codecs from here:
    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html

Then install all DivX codecs separat (Not from Nimo).
    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html

After that install Nimo Pack but uncheck all divx codecs and the xvid codec and also uncheck a direct show filter which is Ffdshow DirectShow
    Install Nimo from here:
    http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/

    Now all should work fine!

By the way,AC3 comes with the Nimo Pack

  3. Thanks for that.

Now I have a different problem.

I can now play Xvid with sound no problem, but when I encoded the file to SVCD, the SVCD file had no sound!!

Any idea why?? I am using Tmpgenc with standard SVCD(PAL) template.

    Bax.

Try this for AC3 (The best)
    http://www.moonlight.co.il/download.htm

Moonlight Odio Dekoda DirectShow® filter, binary (71,855 bytes, ZIP)

HTTP Download, U.S. Primary (it is recasting)
    HTTP Download, U.S. Secondary <<<<<<
    HTTP Download, Russia

    Test your system with these

If you need a codec, don't install trialwear or spywear, only full versions

    Moonlight Odio Dekoda
Universal AC-3/MPEG Audio (Layer 1/2/3) Decoder

Moonlight Odio Dekoda DirectShow (R) filter enables software-only
decoding of MPEG-1/2/2.5 Layer I, II and III (also known as mp3),
Dolby(R) AC-3 and LPCM audio streams. The filter automatically detects proper
stream format and choses corresponding decoder thus allowing seamless
switching from MPEG audio to AC-3 (even during playback) and vice versa, and
    between various MPEG encoding modes
