Hi there -- I would consider myself pretty good w/ the whole SVCD thing -- at least for my needs... BUT... I'm struggling for the past week and a half with the following issue w/ tmpgenc.

Let me give a bit of background -- I demuxed a vob file from tmpgenc -- i pulled out the video/audio files i needed, then i remuxed to get this wonderful MPEG2 standard file with perfect audio/video sync. Wonderful!

BUT...(always a but lately!) -- the file is too big. But it's in sync perfectly to the very end.... Now when I try to take this file and convert it into an MPEG2 file that is at a lower bitrate (and smaller size) in TMPGenc, it either freezes or tells me I've got an invalid file type.

I've tried using the MainConcept water-marked trial encoder -- it ends up being out of sync by like 2 seconds (Yep, makes me wanna throw 100 bucks their way -- I like the interface & speed, but it appears to lack the MPG tools I like in TMPGenc).

I'm just baffled -- I've tried tons of different programs -- so i'm at my last resource for ideas. Maybe there's a program out there that I haven't used yet.

    Thanks in advance!

To be able to open mpeg2 in tmpgenc you must have a mpe2 codec installed, like powerdvd. Or you can use this method www.vcdhelp.com/mpeg2tovcd

    Hi, again.

I tried installing the Nimo codec pack, but the problem I run into with that is that one of the codecs (haven't figured out which one yet) conflicts w/ my WinTVPVR software. But, prior to uninstalling the codecs, I used the Nimo pack and it seemed to work.

I try to do things easiest, and it just seems that if I can just find a codec or figure out which one it specifically is in the Nimo pack, I can install it (and hopefully avoid the conflicts w/ the Hauppauge card/software).

I've tried Adobe Premiere -- and that seems to creep along at a ridiculously slow (and, even, geriatric) pace... Do any of these other plugins I've seen for premiere pick up its pace? To convert an 850MB file from MPEG-2 to a lower quality bitrate, it estimated about 11 hours. I thought TMPGenc's 3 or 4 hr process was pretty bad.

So, I guess that's my only question -- where can I get the codec for TMPGenc to be able to convert the MPEG-2 files. I check the link under the codecs section on this site -- I was unable to decipher that web page due to language issues.

    Thanks, again.

  5. I have powerdvd installed, TMPGEnc says it has the Cyberlink MPEG-2 decoder loaded under VFAPI, but it still won't open any MPEG2 files (says "can't open, or unsupported"). What's wrong with this thing?

  6. just to get this thing done it sounds like you need to up the priority of the mpeg2 decoder on tmpgenc goto the vfapi page and right click on the mpeg2 decoder and then choose increase decoder priority. DO this till it is the top of the list. you should then be able to open your mpg files.

(dont take this as gospel as I am no expert)

  7. I did get my TMPGEnc to open MPEG-2s after installing Nimo decode pack (still don't know why powerdvd didn't work). But now I can't open AVIs, get the same error. I've moved plugins up and down the priority list so much I'm getting dizzy. I'm pretty close to giving up on the whole TMPGEnc thing (I'm having a LOT of problems with it since going to 2.510) and going to CCE or something.

  8. If your having problems with tmpgenc then believe me going to cce is NOT an easier option (unless you can do bicubic resize in your head) why not try out ligos or main concept, other people have mentioned they are OK. But really tmpgenc is the best quality and the most flexible.

  9. Hm, and it's not cheaper either. I'd love to use TMPGEnc, I really liked the free version before the MPEG2 ran out. I'd be more than happy to shell out $48 for the Plus version, but I just can't get it to work on my AthlonXP PC (sounds like many others have the same problem). This is by far my fastest box (and my next PC may well be another XP) so it doesn't seem like TMPGEnc is going to work for me. Just when I think I'm ready to start cutting DVDs, and I get tripped up by these infuriating little annoyances. /sigh
