  1. Hey guys,

I have some movies that are in AVI format (mostly xVID with a few in DIVX4) and it seems whenever I try to play them it will immediately crash whatever player I try to use. irregardless of its WMPlayer, MPlayer2.exe, PowerDVD, NDVD, WinDVD, etc. When I Load up the program, then select the AVI it will load up the AVI and immediately crash / exit out of the entire player / program. Ironically its only a FEW files that are crashing, out of the 100 or so video files I have only about 5 or so that crash, and 4 out of the 5 are xvid.

I have the xvid & all divx codecs installed (Nimo Codec Pack + Official Xvid Codec), and even ran "G-Spot" to verify that I had the codes installed and that the video files were not corrupt, yet I still can't figure out why it won't play it.

My System Specs are as follows:

Windows XP Professional v2002 Service Pack 1
    Pentium 4, 2.4ghz, 512k L2 Cache, 533mhz FSB
    Intel 850E Motherboard
Master - 20 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM Diamond Max Hard Drive
Slave - 80 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM Hard Drive
    GeForce 4 - 420 MX Video Card
    768MB PC1066 Rambus RDRAM
    Santa Cruz Sound Card
    Creative PC-DVD 12X DVD Drive
    Lite-On 48x12x48 CDRW
Pinnacle PCTV Pro TV Tuner Card
Intel Pro/100 M Network Connection (To Cable Modem)
D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Faster Ethernet Adapter (To Internal Network)
    Microsoft USB IntelliMouse Optical
    Microsoft Natural Multimedia PS/2 Keyboard

Any suggestions would be very helpful. THanks.

  2. *--Update--*

I uninstalled the NIMO codec pack and individually installed DIVX 5, DIVX4, and the two XVID Releases. After I did that I could get the VIDEO for my movies to come up, BUT, I had NO AUDIO.

I then used Gsport to see that it required the AC3 Codec. So I went ahead and ran Nimo Build8 and deselected EVERYTHING except the AC3 codec pack. It installed it without a problem. But when I try to run the movie AFTER installing the AC3 pack it will do what it was doing earlier, immediately 'crash' the player without allowing me to see the video.

Any thoughts on it? how can I fix this problem??? It seems to only occur AFTER I install the AC3 Codec.

    Thanks.

  3. *--SOLUTION FOUND!!!--*

    ** PROBLEM**
After installing the necessary DIVX video codecs and AC3 audio codec, the video player (whether Zoom Player, BS Player, Windows Media Player, etc.) crashes immediately.

    ** ANALYSIS **
If you unregister the AC3 audio codec, and then try to play the same file, you won't be able to hear anything, but your Video Player will not crash. This entails that the problem isn't with the Video Player, but instead with the functionality or software conflict of the AC3 codec.

    ** RESOLUTION **
I was able to get the DIVX & xVid files to work by doing the following:

    1) Uninstall NIMO Codec Pack
    2) Individually download & install DIVX & Xvid Codecs
    3) Unregister the AC3 codec
    4) Install the new codec (Universal AC-3/MPEG Audio (Layer 1/2/3) Decoder - Moonlight Odio Dekoda). You can get it here:

After that it should work PERFECTLY!
