  1. i am attempting to make a vcd with an avi file that has ac3. as i understand it, vcd doesnt support 5.1 sound. how do i convert this file so that i can burn it onto vcd?

i first tried using tmpgenc the way i usually make a vcd but i get an error saying 'cannot open or unsupported.' i tried downloading some things like nimo codec pack and odio dekoda but nothing changed. do i have to put these files in a specific folder or do anything else to get them to work?

next i tried to separate the sound from the movie using virtual dub. i first tried using 'direct stream copy' and then using that file as the sound source in tmpge but i couldnt hear any sound on the resulting movie file. i think thats because it was still ac3 and not really a wav file?? i then tried full processing mode but got an error message 'the requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. check that the sampling rate and the channel count of the input match those of the requested format.'

so whats the easiest way to make a vcd from this file?

    thanks,

Use graphedit look at my post *HERE*

This was for extracting 1 audio stream from 2 in a Mpeg or AVI , but you can do the same thing for extracing AC3------->Wav

  3. Another way is to extract the audio using virtualdub, Direct stream copy. Then convert to wav with Headac3he. You may need to run the AC3 stream through ac3fix.exe first as vdub appends a wav header.

I kept getting this message with die another day dvdrip. In the end extracted the wave with TMPG. Load your movie into TMPG. Go to file - output to file - WAVE file and extract the wave sound that way
you know it's the anti-Midas touch when all you touch goes to shit..............

  5. Easiest!!

Tmpgenc: option: environmental settings: vfpai tab

Here you have to give directshow filter the higest priorty. Now just open your movie and encode!!
