    Another CCE setting question!

I always check with bitrate viewer to see the way a particular m2v file has been encoded. For the most this is quite straight forward.

A file I am currently looking at (Oceans 11) states that it is "Quantscale: NonLinear". Looking at the settings in CCE you have the option to use Linear quantizizer scale or not. I have assumed for this file I should select not to use it. However, looking in the CCE advanced guidebook, it states that non linear is recommended for Mpeg2 unless there is a "special reason".

Is this a special reason do you think?

I'm midway through ATM of the conversion, so will know I guess shortly. I am however seeking advice so I can understand this a little better if anyone knows.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Regards

  2. I always activate the options in CCE in result of what bitrate viewer shows me.
I have made more than 50 movies, some of them I had to activate Quantscale to linear and some to nonlinear, and I didn't have any problem with movies that are nonlinear.

Shortly after I posted I decided that I would take note of what it said in the CCE guide, and I stopped the encoding in its tracks. I had a quick look at what it had done, and it did seem fine. But I have now set it to run with the check box checked for quantizizer set to non linear.

Anyone know what it actually means or does?

    Cheers

He he - after reading your post Neopunk, I decided to go back to how I had set it originally!

I did however have a peak at what it looked like set as linear, and to be honest, I couldnt see any difference at all! Mind you that was on a PC monitor!
