I'm new to making VCD, but I think I got it right and made it corectly. Even though my DVD player sais it plays VCD's it wouldnt play my VCD I recorded. When I looked in the manual It sais that it doesn't CDR or CDRW. So my question is, is that it end of story or is thier some way around this. I think I know the answer but it doesn't hurt to ask.

that's pretty much the end story. if it can't read cd-r and cd-rw, u can't play homemade vcd's.
i suggest u return it. -
My mate has a Toshiba 2109 which does not play CD-R's but does play RW discs but it can be fusy. It does not like RW's if they have been erased so try some new ones. Also try writing at 1x
Verbatim 80's seem to work well -
I have a Toshiba 2200. I also have about 40 Verbatim 80 min CD's. I'll try writing at 1x. I'll also try a CDRW but I'll have to get some new ones because all mine have been erased at least one, I'll try one of my old CDRW's first. As far as returning the Toshiba that wount work since its about a year old. Besides it oly cost $100. Any one else have any other tips I'm all ears.

I also have a toshiba DVD player - model 1200 - which is supposed to play VCD, CD-R, and CD-RW. I can make a VCD using Adaptec Easy VCD Creator using a CD-R and it plays perfectly on the PC's Creative DVD-ROM drive - autoloads and looks good. But when I put it in the DVD player I get a "Disk Error" and nothing.
I also cannot figure out how to make a VCD using a CD-RW using Adaptec software. the Direct CD software refuses to let me write to a RW only to a CD-R
any suggestions would be appreciated -
I also have a toshiba sd2700 and iim having some problems playing them. The player sees that it is a vcd but i puts these squares every couple of seconds on the screen. Is it the cds or what??

Good news. I had luck playing a Verbatim CDRW. I used an old CDRW that I had. Erased it then recorded at 2x (that was the max for that CD). Only problem I had so far is I used menus and it got stuck in the menu. I had to type in the track on the remote to play, which kina defeats the purpose of a menu. Im going to try on Verbatim 80 and see how it does. I'll try to record at 4x first.

I tried but it wount play my verbatim 80 min CDR at all. No mater what speed I write them at. But so far I've had no problems playing the CDRW,s that I burned. Thats better than nothing I guess, Strange though.

Got it to work on my Toshiba 1200 - changed software to Nero and burned a short VCD on a verbatum CD-RW (couldn't figure how to do this with Adaptec) and is played perfectly on the Toshiba 1200. I also tried the VCD on a toshiba 2106 ans a KLH DVD player with no luck. - next I will try a CDR

I have a toshiba 2050 it will play any CD-RW but play only one type of CD-R, the ones with the Light Blue Dye, won't play the silver, dark blue, green or gold dye. Sony sells light blue dye CD-R's that will work and some Fry's GQ CD-R's will work if they are the light blue dye only.

I have a Toshiba 5109 DVD and tried to create VCDs. Have tried multiple types of CDR/CDRWs but with no luck. The DVD recognizes that it is a VCD but the picture is completely "pixalited" and sound is just "pops". I understand that VCD's should be in VCD2.0 format. Can this be the issue? Any feedback would be appreciated

i've got two toshiba standalones, sd6109 and sd3109. the sd3109 will "roughly" play a standard VCD burned on Princo silver/blue CD-R media. the sd6109, on the other hand, will play all 352x240 XVCDs (up to 3000kbps) i've burned on dark bottomed (grey?) CD-RW media only (CompUSA brand, STI brand from Circuit City, and Princo).
yup, those toshibas can be r-e-a-l fussy... -
After playing around for ever with these VCD's I found that my Toshiba DVD player will not play any CDR's. But it plays silver layer CDRW's with no problem. Then the problem was the VCD didn't look that good. I got block noise (I guess thats what its called) all over my Dragonball z episodes that I put on to VCD. So I started playing with variable bit rates and other settings to make it look better. I got it looking good but the best I can do is 2 20 minute episodes pre VCD. But my player plays the almost perfectly. No fuzzynes great picture and sound. The only problem I have now is if I try to fast forward it will loose the audio. I guess thats not that bad. If I could just fix that fast forward problem it would be great.

By the way I'm using Memorex and Verbatim 4x CDRW. I use VirtualDub to capture, TMPGEnc to encode and edit, and Nero 5.5 to Burn. I can erase the CDRW's and use them again only if I do a full erase. The quick erase causes the video to freeze sometimes.
-
i've noticed the same thing when re-using CD-RW, full erase vs. quick seems to provide a more stable environment for the next burn when playing it back on the toshiba.
on that fast forward problem, when u encode the MPEG, try setting it up so that 1 "interval sequence header" is inserted after every GOP... -
I think its set that way but can you explain a little better on how to do that.
