Curious to know if there's been an update to the Nimo Codec Pack since I downloaded it last, I clicked the link in the Tools (Useful Software) page here.

Rather than nimo.everwicked.com like I was expecting, I was transported to something called www.btopenworld.com, with no codecs to be found.

    Whassup wit dat????

I think Nimo's Site is still under construction.

  4. I've just downloaded the new Nimo Codec Pack (build 9) from the following website

    http://www.softnews.ro/public/cat/11/2/2/11-2-2-12.shtml

    Try this.

I think one of the moderators needs to update the link in the tools page.

Oops I've just noticed the reply above mine had the same link, oh well. It was the newest version of Nimo that I downloaded from there.

Why use Nimo ? YOU DO NOT NEED IT !!

Only install the codecs you need, or curupt your system with Nimo !

Test to see what you need, then go get them from kazaa

I've actually had the Nimo Pack on my system for months.

Just been told the reason my Dazzle DVD Complete crashes when I use PCM sound and try to change a picture in a title menu or a label is I'm missing the "Microsoft PCM Converter" audio codec.

It's supposed to be installed with Windows by default, but all three of my Windows XP PC's do NOT have it. Coincidentally, or maybe not coincidentally, I have the Nimo Pack (not the latest one) on all three.

By corrupting my system, would you possibly mean deleting this codec from my original installation?

Dazzle suggested I reinstall the latest DirectX to get the codec back, but installing the brand new DirectX 9 didn't help.

Anyone know where I can download this "Microsoft PCM Converter?"

    Thanks...

Nimo codec pack should be used with caution (if at all).
Since I installed Build 8, Media Player refuses to play any avi file, even if VDub, Playa, TMPGEnc et al reads them fine.

  8. Okay after reading all your posts you got me worried so I removed my Nimo Codec Pack.

Can someone tell me the most popular codecs to install in place of nimo?

I've seen KingJohn's Guide to Codecs but I really don't want to test all the ones listed.
How would I know what codec a movie I've downloaded uses if I did not have it installed??

I find all this codec stuff very confusing so if someone could just tell me the most popular, I'll download them and pray that every movie I get uses one of them!!

    Thank you
    Karen

Try gSpot (TOOLS section). It will tell you what codecs are needed for a given AVI.

  10. I've just run an avi (that worked when I had nimo) through gspot. It says all codecs are installed except the last one.

    DirectShow Render

    Source - MEDIASUBTYPE_Avi
    Splitter - AVI Splitter
    Audio Media - WAVE_FORMAT_MPEGLAYER3 (MP3) (0x0055)
Audio Codec - MPEG Layer-3 Decoder

Status - 0x00040257: VFW_S_VIDEO_NOT_RENDERED - Cannot play back the video stream: no suitable decompressor could be found.

Does anyone know what codec I need to install to correct this?

    Thank you

Hmm... Doesn't say what AVI type it is. Try opening the AVI in VirtualDub and take a look at file info!
