I just got the Sony DVD500A Burner, and i am having troubles playing my DVD-R's on my portable Samsung DVD player. I can play the DVD-R's on my first Sony DVD player which is about 5 years old, but not my brand new Samsung... I went into my manual and they said that it suports DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW, so i know its that i cant support it...
I am using Sony DVD-R's but plan on getting Princo soon.
I am using Nero since the software that it came with dosnt work, but is there anything i can do with maybe changeing the burn method so my samsung can view it?
Thanks for all your help

Do a search for UDF/ISO in these forums.
If you're not having luck with the DVD-Video setting in Nero, select the last option from the column on the left hand side in Nero, "DVD-ROM(UDF/ISO)." Then from the UDF tab, make sure that UDF 1.02 is selected for physical partition. Of course, you'll have to make your own VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. Some folks here have indicated this change helped them.
Good luck -
Hey thanks, i am trying it righ now so i will let you know if it works or not...

i tried that and now it wont even work on any of my players... i put in the right folder names and now it says that the disc could not be played
any other ideas?
Thanks for your help -
I just remembered that i tried my other DVD on another samsung dvd player in the living room which is about 2 years old that my dad bought at Costco, and it wont load either... Could it be Media problem, or are they really picky on how to burn a DVD and for it to work?
Thanks for your help -
There have been some issues with Nero and the Sony drive.
Try using Stomp RecordNow DX that you get for free for buying the Sony drive.
If you're going to use Nero, the version makes a difference, and use UDF/ISO, ISO9660, and physical/1.02 in the UDF tab. -
Stomp RecordNow seems to be able to make DVD's that will play on any DVD player. Nero burned files will play on my Pioneer, but not on my Apex. Instant CD-DVD burned files are the reverse. Give Stomp RecordNow a shot, but remember to change it to "Closed disc"

I have been doing a lot of research on this. Out of all the burning packages, the best for me has been VOB Instant, this has given the best results across all standalone players.
Hope this helps, there is also a guide on this site on how to burn with this software. -
I have also done tons of research on this problem, and have access to MANY different DVD players, and have found that VOB Instant CD/DVD burned files will NOT play on many Pioneer players that I have tried. Use Stomp Record Now if you want your DVD's to play in the greatest number of players.

i have am almost done burning with Record Now, I will letr you know if this method worked for me
does the softeare have to verify the files? It takes a half an hour just to verify. I know it is good to have, but it takes so dang long and i have about 200 DVDs that i really want to backup, hearing all the baby horror stories and the DVD decay...
Thanks for all your help -
No, no need to use verify. BTW, the program defaults to not closed, so it's best to change it to closed, however they seem to play fine either way.

where is the settins for that? I have the basic version that came with my burner, and not the MAX version, so i dont know if that option is in there, but it seemed to work the way i had it.
Thanks for all your help! -
After you select Data, to the right of "Add files and folders" is "Options". Click on that and you will see it there under "DVD" "Recording type".
-
hmm well i dont have it... i added something and there is nothing next to the add files/folders icon, but thats ok since it worked for me in the first place and it should do that for everything else...
Thanks for all your help -
Nothing I burn with Nero will play on my Cyberhome 500 or Apex AD600A. But it will play on my roommates old Panasonic (go figure). I suspect that's it's the UDF1.05 (however, as I'm running Nero Express [game with drive] I can't swtich to UDF 1.02).
Anyway, what I've started doing is making an image using the IFOEdit Img Tools, then burning w/ DVD Decryptor. It takes an extra 2-4min to make the image but this has NEVER failed to make viewable disc.
