Ok, I just bought a DVD burner, and I am trying to make a 1:1 back up of one of my DVD;s to try it out.. I am VERY new to this, I bought a bunch of 4.7 Gig blank DVD's.. I tried to use nero, and it says the movie will not fit on the CD! ANd I have tried just albt all my movies!
Do some movies need the larger cd's? Is there any wat for me to make a 1:1 back up with the smaller ones?
Thanks
Edit - Ok I have been reading the site a bit more, and I seen most DVD's now days are DVD 9's .. Which will not fit on a 4.7 gig DVDR/RW
I guess my only question is, is there a way to fit a DVD larger then 4.7GB on to 4.7GB DVDR with all menus and bouns stuff intact?

superjerman,
I'm new too.. Sorry to be the bearer of some relatively 'bad news' but... yes, it's going to entail a 'bit' more work to backing up a DVD-9 (>4.7G--actually, > 4.37G) to a DVD-R.. especially if you want to retain the original menus and extras.. I once too thought that a simple click or 2 of a button and you'd have a perfect backup copy of a DVD... nothing c/b further from the truth. But once you get some practice in, it becomes much easier (although I'm not there yet.. '-)
You'll have to read thru the guides on this site and doom9.org to get an idea of which additional software you will need and then, of course, choose which method/guide you want. IMO, it's best to strip the DVD-9 down to the bare movie, then take it from there. If the movie alone is > 4.37G, then you'll have to compress it enough to fit onto 1 DVD-R... or you could split the movie onto 2 DVD-R's..
Sorry, but that's about as much as I can offer... hopefully, I've not misinformed you.. -

The answer to the first question is NO, there isnt a disc bigger then
4.7g, its really more like 4.4,little less actually, And no you cant have
all the extra and stuff on ONE disc, follow guides to the left, like dvd
for dummies, not saying you are one, cause we were all new to this
several months ago, and check out the guide called dvd2dvdr, but
its uses a program callled spruce-up which isnt available anymore
but there is a demo there, but ac3 file wont load into it...now if you
just want the movie, no extras, maybe a subtitle or two, thats the
easy part, though some of the more complex ones(over 2hrs),its
gonna be tricky to the novice.... -
