I've been using Fujifilm CD-r's to make vcd's for playing in my DVD player with no problems at all for about 2 years. Now I recently purchased two 50 packs and can't get any vcd's i've created from either pack to work in my dvd player. they used to work great now all of a sudden...they just get ejected by my dvd player. I'm using vcd compliant material created with tmpgenc and burning with nero at 8X, the same speed I've always burned at. Can someone please give me a hand, especially if this has happened to you too. This is very frustrating.

Have you used the Nero CD Speed (ScanDisc [Extra-Pull-Down] function) to perform the diagnostics on the failed VCDs?

I don't know anything about that and looking for it in Nero I couldn't find what you were talking about...All I know is, I found a few fujifilm cd's from the old 50 pack, burned my file and it worked just fine. I tried burning the same vcd compliant file on the new cd's and again, my dvd player just ejects it, and quickly too, it's not reading it for a long time and then ejecting it. it only takes a couple of seconds for it to be ejected. I need someone's help badly.

The 'Nero CD Speed' application can be found in the START menu. It is usually installed together with your Nero Burning ROM software if you set to typical installation method.

The test worked fine and as I said I found one of the older Fujifilm cd's and it played just fine on my dvd player. Seems too coincidental that it's only these new cd's. Guess I'm just going to have to find a new brand that works with my Samsung 709 DVD player.

Eddie-D, that is disturbing news to me because I, too, have a Samsung 709 DVD player, and I also use the Fuji CD-R. I know the frustration that you must be going through because I was in the same boat as you, i.e. I ran out of the CD-Rs that worked, so I buy another spindle of the EXACT same discs, and lo and behold, they don't work! I've found that the Samsung 709 is a very finicky player when it comes to what kind of discs that they would play. I also have a JVC DVD player, and some discs that the Samsung rejects, the JVC plays fine. My guess to your problem is that maybe Fuji changed their manufacturing process, enough to cause the Samsung player to reject them.
Sorry I don't have a solution. You can try other discs and see if they would work. Maybe you can borrow a disc from friends to see if that batch would work, and then try to buy that same lot.
Good luck. -
Thanks for the compassion micmel, lol, I need it right now. Guess I'll try the Princo silver blue discs, they're cheap and people seem to vouch for their effectiveness in the dvd player disc compatibility area of this site. At least I can still use these for audio cd's or data backup. Or if you hear of people being attacked in Pennsylvania by some crazed CD throwing maniac, you'll know I finally lost it. In the meantime if anyone else with a Samsung709 would like to help save a nice person like me from a life of crime...PLEASE tell me a good cd-r to use.
Thanks -
Some of the Fuji CD-R are made by Taiyo Yuden which is known to offer best compatibility.
You can check the CDR ID by using this app:
http://www.gum.de/cdrid/downloads/cdrid163.zip
If the Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs are the ones that are working, you need Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs which are a bit more expensive running around 30 cents per CD-R.
