  1. A few movies i downloaded from Kazaa are divx type avi's, and in each i'm getting this big pixelated color blocking for all movies. This is for
both playing them in realplayer1 or MediaPlayer9 and converting them with avi2mpg.

My eyes can't take all this readin/searching for the right codecs i need or the right player or the right encoder to convert to mpeg format.

    Please help here.

I have tmpmeg and many other of the converter programs, but i just don't have the time(as in 10+ hrs/day) to learn this new launguage of AVI conversion.

Exactly how do i convert these to mpeg?
And what is the best player to view them?
And what codecs must i install if needed?

btw: mpeg is so simple to play and burn to (s)vcd, why do so many folks use the avi format?

    TIA

  2. Sounds like you don't have the right codecs installed with the pixelating. You could try downloading the coedecs supplied on this site to fix the problem.

Saving files as avi gives you a better quality than vcd with a much smaller file size.

They use AVi to keep the size down

Test your system and find out what you can't play

Then when you can see what codec is missing, only install that.

    Now make a VCD

  4. Grab Gspot off this site to confirm what codec was used in encoding any files downloaded and then just search for the codec here and on the web.

As much as I would like to recommend Gspot all the time, it does not always work !, sometimes it only shows what can be used to "play" the file
