  1. I thought this was a bit off topic for the "Hardware" sections so I thought I'd ask for peoples opinions here.

I've just bought a new Pioneer A05 and want to install it but already have a DVD-Rom and a separate CD writer in my PC (secondary master and secondary slave - I also have 2 hard drives as my primary master and slave). Now I'm in a quandry because I don't want to rely on the A05 to rip films to my hard disk because it's too slow (my existing DVD-Rom will pretty much rip any film in 10 minutes), but I also have occassions when I want to copy and write CD+G which I believe the A05 can't handle and so will still need my old CD writer from time to time.

My PC is a Fujitsu P4 1800, running XP Home.

So what would you do in this situation? Is there any way the rip speed of the A05 can be improved?

    Thanks

  2. Is the problem just the fact that you do not have a free IDE channel, or are you out of empty 5 1/4" bays as well. If you still have space in your case and you have a free pci slot you can buy a PCI ide controller card that will give you another 4 IDE channels. As far as the limited ripping speed, I don't think you can do anything to change that. If you are out of bays also, you could consider an external firewire enclosure.

  3. Thanks for the info. I do have a free bay and so I'll look around to see what PCI IDE controllers are available.

    Thanks again
