I daily encode 42min episodes of Babylon5 with the SxVCD template. At the Highest quality, use to take 4 and a half hours or more to encode, so I set it to "higher" quality. SxVCD at higher quality use to take about 3hours to encode on my duron 700 and all the tmpeg externals for audio.
But today I used tmpegenc12J with "highest" quality, just to see the new improvements of the encoder. And I stoned! I weak up and saw that took only 3h12min !!!!!
The quality is also a bit better (no blurness anymore in certain non moving scenes, if you don't use the "No motion search..." fuchtion!
I also encode a couple of CVD's (svcd with 352X512 resolution, compatible also with DVD specs)on the highest quality, and took me only 25 min for a 4.30 video!!!!! The quality of CVD was typical on the PC, but on my standalone (cyberhome 212M) no more statering parts on white backrounds!!!!
Hey, that all happend only to me? Did anyone else notice those things working with 12J?

I noticed it also ... but I didn't really know if it was something I did differently, or if it was in fact an improvement on TMPGEnc's part.

    My conclusion after many tests:
It seems that tmpegenc 12J is much faster now!
It takes the same time to encode in "highest" mode, as it took to encode in "higher" mode on previus versions!
    We talking for huge difference!
About the quality, I thing all XXX:576 resolutions produce more stable picture now.
But, I don't see other people opinions! Hey, testing ain't harm you! Try the new version! Report the results you got!
That's why the forums are made for!!!!

Improvement, Schmimptrovement. In fact, I'm about to post a little complaint about 12j...

Seems they may have improved speed (though I didn't notice any difference), but the quality has gone to crap for "HIGHEST". Or, it's Sefy's new template.

    New post coming...

  6. when i use TMPGEnc 12j to encode an avi movie to vcd, it takes way too long, it says 25+ hrs remaining, goin extremely slow, why is this? my pc has been on for a while 2-3 days, a few resets tho, can this be the problem? i use windows 2000, if that helps, whats wrong ?

  7. wierd... mine takes 34 min to encode a 24 min movie at high quality with no other filters on except soften block noise at 35...

    My system specs are
    Pentium 3 1 Ghz
    384 RAM
Geforce 2 GTS 64 Mb DDR
    Sb Live
    and so on...
    (runs counter-strike like a dream )

  8. xxKMANxx...

I had a problem like that before. Try demuxing the video from the sound before using TMPGEnc, then using the seperated streams as the inputs. I used dBpowerAMP with the correct codec, and got a wav file out.

I have an Athlon 1.4 GHz with 512MB, and a conversion that originally was to take 34 hours for a 2 hour movie dropped to 110 minutes.

    Hmmm...
About the picture quality of the new Sefy's template....
I 've noticed artifacts and blocks now! I had to increase the bitrate to eliminate this!
@Homerpez: Maybe you have right: I used Highest, Higher and motion search estimate, and the quality result was the same! So, maybe there is speed there, because all modes now are the same?

  10. dunno know about "J"s new speed...but Im haveing bugginess with batch encode & toolame workin properly....both are just shitting down the app for no apparent reason...didnt have this prob with "I"...BTW, anyone got just plain o' 12 with no letter or "H" that I cant get from them?

  11. For 12Beta:

    http://www.granavenida.com/vcdspain/down/tmpgenc.htm

That one is still my favorite. You give up a little speed wise (not too much though), but it gives considerably smaller VBR encodes with seemingly equal or greater quality than the newer versions. Although I haven't tried 12J yet...

Once a month I grabb mtv2pop (germany) and I encode with SxVCD all the new progressive house/trance videoclips
Anyway, yesterday I encode a 23 track SxVCD, using 12j
    I just watch it
    Well:
4 tracks don't have audio after a while.
7 tracks had blocks and artifacts
    2 Tracks got delays...
Those things happens for the very first time...
I don't know if is tmpeg 12j or the new Sefy's Template, But I return to 12i and old templates, which I have excellent quality (by using the "higher" mode...

But with my CVD beta 4 template (352X576, optimized for encoding from satellite feeds), the results are better with 12j! Well, my test will continue next weekend again (heavy week in job the following one...), so it's up the forum members to post their results...

Well...I know someone out there is having the same problem that I am. The newer versions of TMPEnc have problems encoding downloaded ASF streams. Just for fun because someone posted a link I downloaded the old Beta version. For this application the results were great. With 12i the encode would take over an hour and I would lose the audio somewhere around the middle. With the old Beta it did the encode in 17 minutes and I did not lose the audio at all. Now because it was a streamed ASF the quality sucked ass. Some of the ASFs are better than others. It used to be that when I wanted to encode these clips with full audio I had to encode the video, record the audio with another program and then re-encode the two back together. Now, someone will think "Why don't you open it with Virtualdub 1.3?" You can't becuase streamed ASFs have a header on then that are not part of the video, but are counted in the total bytes display so Virtualdub crashes every time you try to open it. So...for anyone having similar problems I suggest try out the old Beta version. As for 12J I have not tried it out yet, but soon will.

  14. guys, I really don't know what to say, I thought everyone was happy with the quality of shizzon's template, so I just implemented his ideas into my Templates, maybe the combination is bad since his uses CBR and mine is VBR, I don't know, to be honest, I only did the changes, I didn't even get to test them, if all these complaints keep coming, and people will ask, i'll repost the older Templates.

Basicly if any of you read the Text Files you can do a "backward" step to the old Templates by just following the text file and reversing what I changed.

Again, I am really sorry! it will be the last time I release something without first checking it in person!

    Hi Sefy...
It is not your templates, it is the combination of them with the new tmpegenc 12j....
They change something! The new 12j beta is a bit weird!
We have to test a lot before post conclutions...
