I've noticed that when playing a XVCD on the standalone DVD player, a highpitched(digital sound) beep will blend in with the audio. It's like a pop while playing an LP. It's not there when played on the computer CD-ROM though. I have tried recording at different speeds. I am thinking that it may be my CDRW burner. Here is my setup:

    ATI AIW 128pro
    Philips CDRW804
    Memorex CR-Rs
    AMD 800Mhz processor
    Win98ME
    Ulead
    NERO 5.5

  2. It might just be that your DVD standalone's processor isn't maximized to play XVCDs at that bitrate. I've burned a couple of movies with some experimental bit rates, and I've had popping and pauses in the video similar to watching a movie on a computer with low memory. You can either A) try experimenting with XSVCD, which is more flexible and forgiving, B) watch those bit rates (audio AND video), or C) try upgrading the firmware in your DVD player (possibly available from your manufacturer).

I have been testing the XVCDs that I have made on several DVD players. The highest I go is 1150Kbps with video data rate which is a standard for VCDs. This could be a factor in any one of the following things that I am doing or using: My CDRW burner(Philips), My CDRs(Memorex), The burning rate (although I have tried x2 with the same results), the file being noncompliant(but I have heard people say that Pioneers and Apex DVD players play noncompliant XVCDs without a problem. I will be glad when I've got this problem solved and I will be able to pass the advice on to others on what to do to make playable XVCDs.

"watch those bit rates (audio AND video)"

What is an ideal video bit rate, higher than 1150Kbps, without slowing things down...on most DVD players? The XVCD I made with ULEAD was 2300Kbps(video)/44100Kbps-224(audio)/13(performance level)
It seems as though only JVC and Apex DVD players could even handle this disc (the audio still had beeps in it though, but atleast the video wasn't dragging).
