  2. Although I have had only limited experience with the Mitsui's I have burned countless Taiyo Yuden's without a hassle.

I usually choose them because they are cheap yet reliable.

I have found that they are basically the same disk. The Taiyo Yuden's I find are usually a bit cheaper about $1.00 Canadian different. But both work amazing.

  4. Nice thread title. I just have to reply!

Taiyo's are the best Cyanine disc: 30-50 years expectency, UV sensitive (keep away from sun), but very compatible playback. Most other brands of Cyanine suck.

Mitsui's (and formerly Kodak's) are the best Phthalocyanine, especially the expensive gold ones. They are more rugged, not UV sensitive, and are rated to last 100+ years. Some really old CD players or CDROM drives have problems with the phthalocyanine discs, but all new ones are fine.

I use the Mitsui's for storing critical data, or something I want to last forever- like a SVCD of my wedding, baby videos or certain out-of-print music CD backups. I use the Taiyo Yuden's for everything else, like music CDR's for the car or regular data CD's.

It makes no sense to buy any other brand in my book.

Taiyo Yuden along with Sony and Phillips are the owners of the patent for the invention of recording as I understand it..
And Taiyo is ill a privately held company!
    I'd favor the inventors!

  6. I have only used one mitsui dvd-r, because it is priced too high, amd it worked fine and burned at 2x with my old dvr-103.
I have used over 100 taiyo yuden dvd-r discs, 45 taiyo yuden blanks and over 60 fuji's that are made by ty. I have not used advinfo to verify but they have the same markings and color. Taiyo is my favorite, they are cheaper than most 2x dvd-rs and I have never had one fail or stutter.

You cannot go wrong with mitsui or taiyo dvd-r in my opinion so get the cheaper disc unless you don't care about price. If I had plenty of cash I would probably buy mitsui.

I have not been able to find any TY DVD-R's. Do you have a source and a price for those.

First I will admit I've used neither of these, but based on what I know of their companies both are likely great disc, however the mitsui's will be WAY move expensive.

  9. Just look for "Made In Japan" on the package of the DVD-R's

Fuji-Film and Maxell are both "Made In Japan". Taito Yuden and Mitsu are the only ones that produce Japanese made CD-R's and DVD-R's.
