Just out of curiosity, can you, with a DVD Player/CDRW drive, copy a DVD to a CDR or CDRW? Or do you have to copy the contents from the DVD onto your harddrive then convert it to mpeg-1 or what? Just wondering if this is possible because I plan to get a new computer with a DVD/CDRW combo drive and I might want to copy DVD's.
Thanx so much!

IF you find a 4.6 Gigabyte DVD that is less than 20% full, then using such a drive you could copy it to an 800 Megabyte CD, the software would use the hard drive for storage during this operation, unless you perhaps have over a Gigabyte of memory installed. Of course, this would then be in Mini-DVD format and would play in only a few DVD players.
Since you are evidently totally unable to read the FAQ or browse the Guides, Explanations, and incredible wealth of information contained in these forums, (since doing so for about 5 minutes would have answered this question for you, that is why doing these things is REPEATEDLY SUGGESTED throughout this website) I would suggest you get an XBOX and a TERRAPIN instead of a PC.
Or you could decide to invest a considerable amount of time and effort in learning what you need to know.

yes you can in a way -- you will have to
A. rip the movie
B. re-encode the movie to scvd or vcd (or xvcd or xsvcd) to figure out which depends on yoru dvd player.
C. author / burn the movie onto a cdr
you can get a program like dvd2svcd which rather takes care of it all and a encoder like TMPGenc to go along with it and a program to burn the result images to cdr ...
so all you need>
dvd2svcd (free)
TmPGenc ($40)
Nero (or cdrwin 3.9x) (not sure how much $)

DiscoverPlatinum - You asked a question which could have been easily answered by doing a Forum Search. The question also indicated that you have not read the FAQ or done any basic research.
By doing so, you INVITED my sarcasm. I don't care if you don't like it, I am trying to indicate to you what you NEED TO DO if you want to put Video on CD.
Have you read the FAQ? That stands for Frequently Asked Questions, BTW.
Have you read ANY of the GUIDES or EXPLANATIONS or HOW TO's to the left? If so, more than one?
I would bet money the answer to the above is no.
The reason they are there is that the same questions are asked HUNDREDS of times, by people such as yourself.
Note that I answered both your first and second questions in my answer, as did BJ_M. (It's the SAME question). Also note that if you had done any reading, you might save yourself from spending money on worthless programs that are not as good as free solutions that are available.
It is up to you. My experience tells me that most people are too lazy to do the necessary reading, they just want answers spoon-fed to them. If you continue to ask questions which clearly indicate you are not willing to put forth the necessary effort, you will find the answers gradually diminishing. I WANT you to PROVE ME WRONG. I WANT you to be able to ask a question that shows you HAVE done some reading, some THINKING (painful as this may be). I can't poke you with a sharp stick or rap your knuckles with a ruler, hence the sarcasm.
I could answer for you a DOZEN question which you NEED answered, the problem is I would have to spend a considerable amount of time EXPLAINING the concepts involved. That is why the FAQ and GUIDES are there. USE THEM. LEARN. ENRICH YOURSELF.

Tell me, Nelson 37, how am I supposed to look something up if I have no idea what it's called? I didn't know that what I wanted to know is called DVD Ripping. I have looked in FAQ before. At some times, my questions still weren't answered. So then, I turned to the forum. Yes, I've tried to look up the problem before I turned to the forum.
I didn't spend any money on worthless programs. I just questioned it because I saw it in a pop up.
I'm not too lazy to read. I've answered many questions in the past by doing so. The forum is my last resort. It's just that, this particular time, I didn't know what to look for. Now that I know what it's called, I can continue my research.
I guess you don't have anything to do but be a <edited - see rules> about it. If you're gonna do that, I'll seek help elsewhere.
If you would READ my post you'll know why I asked BJ_M the same question twice. Practice what you preach.
