Hello. I am trying to turn my DIVX movie into MPEG so that I can see if it will play in my dvd player. I came across this site and I wanted to know if this is legit. Here is the link:

Also, which outcome would be better? The New Method with Nero Burning ROM 5.5 or the Old Method (iFilmEdit, Nero Burning ROM, VirtualDub etc)?

    The method described is "legit".
Even though Nero does appear easy - drag and drop movie files - it's mpeg encoder has somewhat questionable quality - read other forums on this matter.

Personally (and that favoured by most VCDHELPers), is the method described on this site:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

Use TMPGEnc to encode, then use Nero as a burner:

In terms of the "old guide" - don't bother (stay away from Xing).

  3. Heh, you could get a cheap computer with 256 mb pc-133, wireless mouse and keyboard (NiMH Rechargeables, of course, and like an old celeron/P-3 900+ with a decent HDD for putting your divx movies on, cheap as hell (like maby 300 or 400 bucks), easily upgradeable to use ALL the latest codecs and with a DVD reader, you can play ANYTHING, and use it from the room with the TV.
Hell, when not in use for that, you can even have it rip your DVDs to DIVX while you main computer is free to do whatever (heehee more encoding for more projects .

as long as you don't put a bunch of programs on it, it should be stable and kind as hell

    EDIT post option,
a Kind and a stable operating system

  4. joe444455555, if you did that, how would you get the resolution to match your tv? My current comptuer has a svideo out and my videos never fit on my tv. Either too big or would pan around.
