  1. How much more actual "movie time" can you fit on the 90/99min CDRs and still have a really good picture? The only reason I'm looking into those is to get whole movies (or closer to it) on a single CDR.

If it's impossible or there's more to it I might not waste my money (I need to upgrade my burner).

  3. There is no fixed correlation between a divx movies length and size, this all depends on the bitrate used to encode the movie. So you cannot ask what length divx movie will fit on 1 99min CDR This is an impossible question to answer. If you are asking what length of VCD compliant mpeg can I fit on 1 99 min cdr, then that is different. VCD compliant mpegs are approx 10MB/min, and the bitrate is fixed at 1150kbps, so you can fit 99min on 1 99min CDR. Although the discs are 900MB you can get approx 990MB burnt on them in VCD mode2.

This however is burner dependant, some can overburn upto the full 99min, others may not be able to overburn at all. There are then some burners that will fall somewhere in between these two points.

Even if you do manage to overburn to the full 99min capacity of the disc, there is no guarantee that your DVD player will then play these discs correctly. I have a Lite-on burner that can burn upto 98:58, however anything above 88mins, and my pioneer DVD player has problems playing the disc correctly. It will play upto 88min and then get stuck in a loop unable to go any further.
