When using TMPEGnc do you have to extract the audio using VirtualDub when creating both VCD and XVCD? The how to instructions at VCDhelp.com instruct you to do it for VCD but there is no mention of audio at all in the XVCD guide. Also, in the XVCD how to instructions, I'm told to select source aspect ratio 1:1 VGA or if my source is 4:3 select 4:3 525 line(NTSC) or 4:3 625(PAL) for pal. Well how do I find out what my selection would be. These may be stupid questions since I'm brand new at this.

naaa, 4:3 you use if your gonna watch the MPEG(on a(S)VCD) on your Television, you ONLY use 1:1 if you're gonna watchit on the computer screen.
I use the Vdub uncompression of the audio for both Xvcd and VCD... it like takes 10 mins of my precious time and it saves me from alot of shitWanne earn something a couple of dollars?

hi niagara falls man!
let's see. i'm just on the xvcd "business" so i can give you
my opinions. from what i have read, you are more than
encouraged to extract the audio (eg. with virtualdub) when
dealing with an AVI (DIVX) file, since it may lead to
desynchronization. in order to avoid it, you just rip the
wav out of the avi and later on use two different sources:
one for the video and another one (the one you ripped)
for the audio. this is the best and SAFEST way to avoid
that kind of trouble. if you want to play on the safe side
and not waste hours of coding to later realize it all is
desynchronized, just do it.
by the way, no matter whether it is vcd or xvcd, i would
encourage you to do it with both formats.
concerning the aspect ratio, tmpgenc AUTOMATICALLY
chooses the best setting for your incoming file, so you
should not modify it. the issue is: what resolution did you
use when you captured your file? i use 352*288 (after
many many tries, i stick to that one, for TV rips). then
tmpgenc will usually choose (1:1 VGA) for the incoming
and 4:3 (TV) for the output file). Usually, it all is done
automatically.
hope to have been of help!
