I am ripping a Rugrats DVD for my daughter and DVD2AVI says it is NTSC 4:3 Interlaced 23.976fps. After numerous attempts at TmpegEnc using these settings:
DeInterlace-Film
DeInterlace-Video
Interlace-Top field-Film
Interlace-Top field-Video
Interlace-Bottom field-Film
Interlace-Bottom field-Video

All of these produced choppy video. After reading some posts, I went back to DVD2AVI and turned off Forced Film. Back to TmpegEnc, it says "judging field order." I used the default settings and it played back smoothly on standalone player.
Interlace-Top field-Video

I am still quite new to dvd burning and understanding film/ntsc/interlace/deinterlace/23.976/29.976 and all of this technical stuff. So hopefully this helps some people, if not, oh well it helped me after a day or two of struggle.
