When you say recordable media do you mean the cd is still blank?

  4. I have a similar problem with my I/O Magic dvd rom. Sometimes I have to turn dma off and when I do this the drive reads the cd-r/rw fine. I only have to do this for burnt cds. I turn the dma on for store bought dvds or cds.

Also did you use packet writing type software (Adaptec's Direct CD or Aheads InCD) to create the cd or did you use cd mastering software (Adaptec EZ Creator or Ahead's Nero). Some dvd/cd roms have a problem with cd-rs that are written with packet writing software.

  5. I normally use Nero. Is there a way to turn off DMA mode for my DVD drive without entering BIOS?

Try something different....Find on the web

    ASPICHK for version 4.60
    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?sess=no&language=English+US...ey=aspichk.exe

    Install and run

...If it says you don't have a VALID ASPI layer , then find
FORCEASPI 4.60 (at afterdawn on a google search ) and install.

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm

Ignore about win xp..it works ...The best there is.

Most CD rom DVD rom, flakey problems are ASPI related.....

Let me ask a dumb question..You don't have any ROXIO products installed along with NERO do you ? They are incompatible. In fact, surprised nero has worked for you without ASPI (though it will with the ASPI file it has but results unpredictable)

I had a DVD rom at one time that insisted on DMA off. But it was the drive.
