My crummy old dvd player does not play svcd so I want to convert some files I have downloaded.
Firstly I used vcdXrip to get the mpg file. Then I used vcdXgen to create an xml file. Then I used vcdXbuild to create multitrack files that i could use in Toast. I burnt these and tried the resulting disc in my dvd player. The trouble was that it only played whilst fast forwarding otherwise it would start playing and just stop. I know it sounds like it is just my DVd player but is there another way of converting svcd to vcd/

My dvd player will not play svcd either, but it will play everything else. Here is what I do with SVCDs (will not work on all players, so burn a rewritable first): Get a copy of vcdgear (www.vcdgear.com - X and 9 versions available). Run your svcd through either mpg to mpg or mpg to bin (be sure to check toast compatable output in mpg to mpg). What this does is change the header info to make your player (and toast) think it is a vcd (keep the original file, you may need to experiment). Works 99% of the time for me with my Toshiba.

get the mpeg track on your computer.
demux it... use ffmpeg, mpgtx, or MMT.
open Mediapipe and add the following:
1) file browser -- open your m1v file
2) file streamer
3) mpeg decoder
4) color conversion
5) scaler - 352x240 do not use low quality
6) MPEG encoder. generate arguments. The only setting you need to alter is the framerate. Make sure that your frame rate is set ot the same as your source.
7) Launch CLI
Wait about 4 hours and you will result in an .MPV file.
Mux that with the .MP2 that resulted when you demuxed the file. If you ended up with an .AC3 file, you will need to convert that to PCM and then convert that to a .MP2 [44kHz, 224kbps] and mux with that.
This always works for me, as my panasonic DVD player is the exact same way... Which sucks since it's an SL-GC10 and I paid $500 for it about 6 months ago. :/
Or you can try using ffmepg alone. But i havent tried it as this is a time consuming conversion and i know that this works for me. -
Thanks for your suggestions guys. For the Vcdgear method I have a couple of questions.
1. How long does it take/
2. Do you use the bin file or do you mount it and then copy the mpg file?
Look forward to your response. -
Only takes a few minutes.
Drop the bin file into toast (burn as a vcd).- Elreeko

Sorry I think I have confused you. I menat what file do you start off with? I have a svcd bin file. What do I do with this in vcdgear? Do I need to mount this bin image or can I use it as it is?

Ah, I see.
In that case take the bin and convert it using bin to mpg (make sure the toast compatible output is checked). Then drop the new file into toast and away you go.Hope it works for ya.
