It works with my external firewire fine.
Under XP here is everything you have to do to make it work.
Install ASPI (I used force aspi)
    Install ADVinfo
Put copy of aspi files into advinfo directory.
Open adv info and select the drive with the disk you wish to check (must be a dvd burner for dvd-rs)
in the pull down box select to read the pre record info. (dont have the exact wording in front of me)
Click the button to read it. Thats it your done.

Works fine for me through several formats so if that doesn't do it, well maybe you did something else wrong. Anyway like I said at the start I'm 100% sure it works on external firewire burners cause thats how I use mine.

  2. I'm running my DRU-500UL on USB 2.0 at home. I have the FireWire cable at work so I can be productive all day long . I'll try your method for USB.

  3. NEW APPLICATION.

    Folks,

In consulation with >NIL: author of ADVINFO. I have written (writing) a replacment application called DVDINFO.

This program is freeware. I am looking for feedback, suggestions, new skins, etc for the program. It supports both DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW.

Have a look and let me know what u think.

    http://www.nicsoft.com.au/download/dvdinfo.zip.

The program will work on Aspi V4.60 but V4.7.1.2 is recommended. (NOTE: V4.70 and V.71) do not work properly please update to V4.7.1.2
from the adaptec web site http://www.adaptec.com

  4. Folks,

I need some testers for DVDINFO V0.20. I have removed the requirement for ASPI. This required some major rewrite of some of the routines.

The program is ready for testing. It should hopefully now work more easily and support external devices, this needs testing.

If you want to test if before release please contact me via email.

    cheers

  6. folks

    Your wish has been granted.

I have just uploaded V0.22 of DVDINFO.

    changes are.

    1. Complete media Code command added to list, this command crops data to 3 lines for minus and 4 lines for plus. Clipboard is also clipped.
    2. Moved 46h to top of list and renamed to Get Configuration Data.
    3. Made a sub-heading for other commands called "READ_DVD_STRUCT COMANDS" and moved all relevant commands under it.
    4. Fixed a bug in 46h not showing enough data.
    5. Fixed a bug that could cause a 5 second delay if error on media button.

    cheers
