Does anyone know how to convert Xvid (new divx format) files to svcd or vcd. I have been gettin these from British mac users (the only ones I have seen with them) and they have given me nothing but trouble. ffmpegX does not want to touch them and quicktime doesn't like them either (even with the proper codecs). I can however play them in vlc 0.4.6 perfectly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Although I am thankful for any information, I would like to note that this is a MAC VIDEO FORUM. Therefore TmpgEnc does me no good. I need a way to convert Xvid on a mac.

  7. have you tried using mencoder to convert the Xvid to a different divx format? this has worked for me, and then you can run it through DivX doctor or ffmpeg/mediapipe/mpeg2enc just fine.

    use the following syntax:

mencoder -ovc lavc -oac pcm /path/to/your/file.avi -o /path/to/your/destination/file.avi

I always choose PCM because it is fast as hell to convert to it, and you dont have to worry about encoding options. On my 800 G4, it converts faster than real time usually.

be sure to specify your output file as a .avi format.

Once you get the resulting .avi you should have no problems converting it to VCD/SVCD. This method works for Xvid, and divx files that have wma audio

Let me know if this works for you.
