Anyone know why when I rip a vcd dat to my hardrive, rename it a mpg file and demux it. the m1v won't be recognized by any program? In quicktime it says unsupported codec. DVDSP won't let me import it. And the weird thing is before i demux it it plays fine and stes it as a muxed mpg file. I have 3 mpgs that are having this odd problem right now, and i need to finish my project soon. I have tried running VCDGear and it seems to fix the header on the whole mpeg file but still doesn't help with the M1V. Why, Why, why is this happening. Someone please give me your words of wisdom, and help me find a solution.

Does DVDSP even work with mpeg 1 files? I thought it was m2v only. What kind of project are you trying to make with these mpg files? Where will you be playing them back?

yeah, DVDSP works great with mpg1 files(except these 3). All you have to do is re-encode the audio from 44.1 to 48, and change it to Aif or AC3. I'm converting like six High Quality Mpeg1 movies onto 1 DVD-R with menus and features. I had everything just about finished, went to import the last 3 m1v files, and it screwed me.
    Anyone got any solutions?

  5. they sound like bad mpeg files... i know you probably dont want to hear that but its true.

Try to open the m1v file with VLC and / or MPlayer. They both can play demuxed mpeg streams just fine. I have only been able to get QT to play them upon rare occassion.

If they play in VLC or MPlayer then you know that SOMETHING elase is wrong. What is the error message on the DVDSP console when you try to add it as an asset?

If the m1v doesnt meet the NTSC or PAL requirements verbatim, then DVDSP will always reject them. The only way around this is to either re-encode the m1v, or change the headers of the file so that you "trick" DVDSP into thinking it is what it should be.

Open the muxed .mpg file in the tools section of the new ffmpeg and select "INFO" only and tell it to go. Then open it in quicktime and hit ?+I to get info on it and tell me what both of those say.

I have pretty good knowledge of MPEG files and DVDSP and the workings of Mac OS, and could have you up and running in a few hours i hope.

    Hope this helps.

You could try VCDGearX, doing a mpg->mpg conversion, with the 'fix broken mpeg blocks' option checked. See if that'll fix it for you. You might have to run this on the muxed mpg files, and then demux the final product.

I tried that with no luck. Works great as mpeg, doesn't work as m1v.
