I have been encoding for quite some time now. This is just of course my opinion but I have encoded 100's of films now. Panasonic Encoder produces MUCH better quality than TMPG Enc. The Panasonic Encoder does a terrific job in Picture Quality and Reducing Blockiness. Yes it does take longer (USUALLY). I do say Usually because with TMPG Enc. you can "tweak" the filters and settings to have a very long encoding time. Just for all those Newbies or people who havent tried Panasonic, give it a shot. It is well worth the money. By the way I have also tried LSX Mpeg, avi2vcd, Roxio and Nero. I bought Xing but didnt know it wouldnt run on Windows ME, so I cant rate that one.

    MY PERSONAL RATINGS
(If 10 is best and go from there)

    10---Panasonic
    8---TMPG Enc.
    6---LSX
    5---Nero
    2---Roxio
    1---Avi2Vcd

Thanks all!!! and I know we all have different opinions!!

  2. I agree with you on Panasonic for MPEG-1

    for MPEG-2 CCE is #1
for crazy settings xSVCD TMPGEnc is #1

one question - do you every convert DivX to VCD with Panasonic? if so do you convert your audio to WAV first or have you had success without converting?

  3. TOTALLY agree with you there, nba_bill. PWI kicks all! its easy to eliminate blockiness and it is way easier to setup. my only beef is that the color does seem to bleed, but that can be fixed (havent figured it out tho). TMPGEnc does come in a close 2nd but its settings are horrific. if you want to turf the blockiness you have to substitute it with a very blurry picture.

    MY PERSONAL RATINGS
(If 10 is best and go from there)

    10---Panasonic
    09---TMPG Enc
    00---everything else sucks my balls!

  4. hey stinky!

in regards to converting DivX to VCD, use Premiere with the PWI plugin. extract your WAV with VirtualDub. place the AVI in the video timeline and your wav in theaudio timeline. export it... NO BLIPS.

Stinky--I just automatically extract the audio with VirtualDub no matter which encoder I use---The audio sync comes out perfect--I dont even bother using the same files when encoding! Thanks
