  1. i have a divx that is about 700mb's in size it playes through quicktime6 with no sound, a problem i fixed using divx validator however it now wont open because quicktime says its running low on memory even thought the file is still the same size can anyone tell me why. I am running OS 9.1 on a 500 mhz imac with 128mb's ram with virtual memory turned off(i know not state of the art but i thought this would be enough to open a 700 mb AVI)

  2. It's been so long since I've been in OS 9 but if I remember correctly....

Select the Quicktime Player in the Finder and Get Info. In the memory setting there is a suggested size, minimum size, and preferred size. Increase the memory allocation in the preferred size.

Turning virtual memory on (in the Memory Control Panel) would probably fix this problem. Also, with only 128MB installed, you most definitely need to have virtual memory enabled to be able to run the MacOS and large applications well. The only problem might be with some Audio editing software that needs virtual memory off. Do yourself a favor and enable this. You'll find that restarting will become much less necessary.
