  1. Hi everybody.
I have downloaded a videoclip, but it is in Microsoft Mpeg-4 V1 format. I have tryed many programes like Virtualdub, Ulead Media Studio 6.5 or TMPGEnc 2.59 but it still crashed when I try convert it to Mpeg-2 or DivX (codec 5.02). I know that Virtualdub not support Mpeg-4 V1. Please help, what a problem is it, what editing software to use for this Mpeg-4. Thanks, sorry for my bad English.

First I suggest you test your system out and see what codecs you might have missing.

MPEG 4 V1,2 and 3 are supported in Vdub in "AVI" format, if you have an AVI that is MPEG 4 V1 then you wont have any problems. It is usually the MPEG 4 V3 in ASF format that gives trouble, But TMPGEnc will also convert them, as will Vdub 1.3c or "Vdub ASF"

If all else fails, use graphedit (See one of my old posts on WMV/ASF)

  3. Thanks King John.
Exactly the first videoclip I have is ASF format. I've just downloaded virtualdub 1.3c and all is ok now. But my other clip still crashes when I try to load it to virtualdub or sonicfoundry video 3.0. Here is clip info :
    - Frame size, fps : 655-380, 29.970fps
    - Decompressor : Microsoft Mpeg-4 video codec V1
    - Number of keyframe : 27
    - Audio : 1 chanel mono, 22050MHz, 16-bit
    - Audio compression : PCM(uncompressed)
I tryed convert it to mpeg-2 by DVD2SVCD using TMPGEnc and Cinema Craft, but no result. Please help. Thanks.

Mono ? Uncompressed ? thats not usual, wont it load in TMPGEnc ? are yo sure its not a ASF ? how did you find out what it was ?

Did you load one of the test clips I made using that codec ?

  5. Hi King John.
This videoclip I have shared in kazaa, it's a song of Guns'n'Roses , "It's so easy". I loaded it to virtualdub, and get info about clip from it. I have so many editing software like Premiere, Studio 8, Media Studio 6.5, Sonic Vegas 3.0 ..., but it can't convert this videoclip, allways failled.
I controled my PC for codecs, everything is OK. Maybe a problem is size 688-380 ?

Some systems have problems with PCM, can you save out the audio in Vdub, then load it into www.goldwave.com and convert it to stereo ?
Or just load the AVI into Goldwave (It takes the audio)

    Save wave (16 bit stereo)

You could tell Vdub to convert it to something else !

    Video > full processing mode
Video > compression > Codec > DivX 3.11 low motion

    Audio > Full processing mode
    audio > compression > codec > MP3

Find your M$ MPEG 4 V1 codec "Mpg4c32.dll" on your system, for V1,2,3 and check its version, it should be "4.00.0.3688" or less, that version is unlocked, even though your have a V1 and not a V3 of the codec, its worth checking.
