Burning svcd with Nero

I've done a search and couldn't find my issue.
I ripped my first dvd to my hard drive yesterday using
DVD2VCD and it worked great! I used Windows MP to play
the mpeg files (three of them) and I tried to use Nero to burn
a svcd disk. I dropped the mpeg file into the window and burned
the cd without error. But it doesn't play. Is there more than just
the mpeg file to place into the burn window?
I'm sorry if this is stupid, I'm new to this.

Any help would be appreciated.

I suppose you're missing the small program from Nero website called MPEG PlugIn about USD9.oo download. You need this small patch program to decode Mpeg files before you can burn your files into SVCD or DVD

Place the disk in the CD-ROM drive and open to view, can you see the large mpeg file in one of the folders ?, if you try to play that, does it work ?

The big-ass mpeg file plays fine (I used windows MP). I'm not sure whether I need to drag 'n' drop more than just the one file into the Nero window.
I burned one of the mpegs to vcd just fine and then tried to play it with MP, but it came back with 'cannot play the file' In the details it alludes to an unsupported format. However, Nero burned the vcd just fine. This is why I'm confused.

Did you make a mpeg 1 (VCD) then tell Nero to make a Mpeg 2 (SVCD) ?
Don't use Nero to convert from Mpeg 1 to Mpeg 2 use TMPGEnc

Also you could convert direct to SVCD with programs like DvdX

Install the Ligos filter, then you can also use TMPGEnc to convert from mpeg 2 to Mpeg 1
