  1. Anyone,

I have just got a new soundblaster live!, but I ain't sure which drivers to get as i don't know which model it is? Where can i get some software to identify it?

  2. The card didn't come with drivers?

Well, it is highly likely that what you have is the "SoundBlaster Live! Value Edition" which is a cheaper version usually found through OEMs.

You can go to www.soundblaster.com and download the latest drivers. I just went there and they only listed "SoundBlaster Live! Family Edition" and "SoundBlaster Live! 5.1". The 5.1 version has a digital output that can be connected to your Audio Receiver.

I'd bet that yours lies in the vein of the "Family Edition". Go ahead and download the Drivers for that and install "drivers only".

    That should do it... hopefully.

  3. Hi mate,

It has got a socket on the back that says "digital out" - Its definately a surround sound card, so which cards does it leave that it could be?

  4. If it has a "digital out" then it must be a "SoundBlaster Live! 5.1" and NOT a "SoundBlaster Live! Value/Family Edition".

There are several editions of the 5.1 card:

    MP3
    Gamer
    etc...

These are all the same 5.1 card just with different software.

Go to www.soundblaster.com and download the appropriate "SoundBlaster Live! 5.1" drivers for your operating system.

    Cheers!

  5. It is either a Sound Blaster Live! or SB Live! 5.1, the only difference is that the 5.1 comes with software that will decode a Dolby Digital 5.1 stream so you dont need an external decoder. Although I believe they are identical hardware wise.
