  1. Hi,

I like to know if I can convert a mpeg1 file to a mpeg2(DVD) format, because I can create mpeg1 files with my Studio MP10 (at 2200 Kb/s)and I wanted to reduce the files size without losing the quality. After converting can I run and see the new mpeg2 file in my PC (with Windows Media Player)and in my DVD Player ?

    Thank's

    AC

    yes and yes.

i've had low video bitrate (850-950kbps) 23fps mpeg-1 VBR XVCDs which stuttered on playback on my standalone. so what i did was

1 - convert the DAT (from the XVCD) to MPEG
2 - load the MPEG in TMPGEnc
3 - load the DVD template
4 - load the unlock template
5 - disabled interlacing and 3:2 pulldown to make it 29.97fps progessive
6 - modified rez to 352x240 (rez on original XVCD)
7 - changed CQ to CQ_VBR 0-9000 (TMPGEnc will only use the max bitrate required for encoding each frame)

the output MPEG-2 file played smoothly on my PC and actually looked better than the original MPEG-1.

i then loaded the MPEG-2 into TMPGEnc and re-encoded it back to a low bitrate 29.97fps XVCD which plays smoothly on my standalone (my standalone won't do MPEG-2/SVCD).
